Geremony Honors Worker

CAPE MAY -Civil Service Worker John McKernan, a resident of Town Bank, retired May 31 after approximately 30 years of federal goverment service. A retirement ceremony was held at the Coast Guard Group Cape May building. McKernan enlisted in the U.S. Army in November, 1942, and flew combat missions in the 8th Air Force. He was discharged from the Army three years later. McKernan re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1947 . and served as a ground radio operator. After serving in the Korean War, he was discharged in October, L MB. MCKERNAN entered the \ civilian federal service in November, 1951, at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, where he worked in installation and checkout of new electronic equipment on newly built ships. /He also installed and checked electronic equipment on the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Saratoga and Battleship U.S.S. New Jersey. On Feb. 11, 1971, McKernan transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard Group in Cape May. He was instrumental in Phasing out the manned light ships and light houses which became automated, and installed new radar's and radio direction finders on various Coast Guard vessels. In addition McKernan created and operated the calibration facility at the Electronics Facility. I

: McKernan received five outstanding awards in his civil service career, four of which were from the Coast Guard. A native of Philadelphia, McKernan plans to remain in Town Bank in retirement with his wire'Eileen.

MillarEmberger Troth Told AVALON - Mr. and Mrs. Robert Millar' have announced the engagement of their daughter, Maryann, to William Emberger. son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Emberger Millar is a graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School and Taylor Business Institute in Pomona. She is employed by the Motor Vehicle Agency in Sea Isle City. Emberger is a graduate of Marple Newtown High School and Penn State__ University. He is employed by Sykes Yacht Sales of Ayalon. - An October 1985 wedding is planned.
