If you've caught builder Glenn Townley and 4 his wife, irrepressible Anne, looking a trifle proud lately, it's not their fault. Their daughter Joyce Anne was graduated June 2 from the University of Delaware College of Nursing, Magna Cum Laude! She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing. She started her education at Stone Harbor Elementary School and Middle Township High and was snapped up by Jefferson University Hospital, Phila., where she works in the Cardio Pulmonary Division. » • • We/have a. very distinguished citizen in our community who recently received the signal honor of having a. building named for him. The Northern Division of the~~West Jersey , Health System last week dedicated a new dental instruction building in Camden called the Harold B. Evans Building. Dr. Evans practiced dentistry there for 38 years before retiring in 1967. He retired to 9820 Corinthian Dr.. Stone Harbor, Tmd still practices in his home. He is a v#teran of WW I and a senior member of the Stephen C. Ludlam Post 331. • Matt and Drew Woolery. whose big spring dinner party was rained out the week before, woke up this weekend to more of the same kind of cold, wet and dreary weather. Matt called us early to say the party was on that night even if it snowed. Miraculously, the day got increasingly warmer and we were able to have cocktail% on the terrace. However, word got out to several million gnats that good grub was about to be served and they all joined us1 for dinner. We fled inside and to the front porch, which apparently is too far from the water to appeal to the voracious little beggars. Teddy Woolery, his three sons and wife, Debbie, ar■MNid from Aston to help arrange for the gala but we swear Matt and Drew could

have done it themselves. When it «>mes to hosting you simbly can't outdo this couple yAn added thrill was seeing Paul Scarlett after too long a time. He spent the winter doing Europe with his dughters. SATURDAY MORNING we went to the Sea Lions Pancake Breakfast at Uncle Bill's Pancake House on 96th Street. It was our first and we'll never miss another. The women's auxiliary of the Stone Harbor Lions sponsors two of them annually for the Helen Dillerijfome. Tireless worker for the home Peg Schaffer greeted us at the door and pretty Colleen Doyle was our waitress. Loads of people were there that we knew: Ann atjfi Bill Allen, Amelia Guerazzi, Frank and .Marion Meade, the Ray j WeLaurentis's, Marie Spence, Pat Mahon, Harry Strohmetz and Pauline Young with six house guests. As she said. "Can you think of an easier way to get breakfast for guests?" Grace Evans has been a friend of ours for years and we were delighted when her daughter. Joanne Willis, came over and introduced herself. Make it a point to get to the next of these affairs; they're really fun! MARK YOUR calendar for Saturday, June 16. That's the date for the annual spring cocktail party given by the Sea Lions for the benefit of the Helen Diller Vacation Home for the Blind, 127 26th St., Avalon. This is the most interesting party of the year for people who sponsor vacations for disabled children because it is the only time that tours are given of the facility and a sponsor can see for him/or herself what a wonderful experience the disadvantaged child will have. Party-time is 5 'til 8 p.m. during which fantastic hot and cold hors d'oeuvres are served and are so plentiful and delicious nobody has room for dinner afterwards. Kay Leahy and

Evelyn Pfaltzgraff are co- I chairing the event and are i busy filling a child's wicker i sleigh with cheer for the ■ raffle. This party is in- I variably a sell-out, so get your tickets early. i • • • , .WE'LL NEVER win a ! Pultizer prize for our < writing, we know, but on i June 2 we were as proud as < though we had. Arlene and < Quentin Sternbergh of i 108th St., Stone Harbor, I teamed up with Alice and ; Scott Daniels of 95th Street i to give a cocktail bash at ' the Daniels' home. I They had a groaning : board of goodies which i held, to my astonishment | and delight, a huge platter of asparagus rolled in thinly sliced bread. In the center of the platter was a decorative banner which bore the words "Reserved for M'Ellen ". Through Alice and Arlene we have finally achieved fame, not for our literary skills as we once had hoped, but as the guest who will swipe all the asparagus sandwiches you can prepare. There were about 60 guests and almost everybody was talking about the June 5 Primary There hasn't been so much interest in a local election around here in years. HOW MANY of you are aware that much of the music for the Broadway musical called Golddiggers of 1935 was written right in Stone Harbor. It was later made into a movie starring Doris Day using the title of one of the songs, "Lullaby of Broadway," as the title for Miss Day's movie. In 1934 Charles and Philippa Richardson gave a house party for the backers of Golddiggers at their brick house on the beach. Eddie Dowling and 1 Charlie Richardson were I songwriters at heart and i one of the songs. " Zing Went the Strings of my I Heart," was created in that

and is still heard frequently. My first husband, Hie late Richard Clement, wrote part of the lyrics as a Does anyone else remember when Judge George Parry with his sons built a tennis court on the vacant lot across the street from their cottage and everybody used it? How about the Dr. George Lukens family with brilliant kids, Jack. Anne and Middy (Margaret for real)? In those days people walked in the roads they were afraid of snakes. We never did find out if the fears were groundless. WENT TO the Bridge and Dessert Party held by St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, June 6 and enjoyed it immensely because the three other gals at our table were ail extremely tolerant experts. Everybody but everybody was there and everybody but your reporter won a door prize — we have never seen so many. Table prizes for highest score at the table were geranium plants — no matter — they don't match our dustry decor anyway. For those who don't play bridge it's a little like billiards; you can have as much fun observing the sharks (in our case lots more) than you can competing. AT STONE HARBOR School Awards Assembly on June 7 we saw all the usual high achievers, their parents and grandparents, plus faces which have, achieved the status more recently. Honor Students Awards were presented for the first time by R. Donald Wendorff. In the 8th Grade they went to: Evelyn Ford and Gwendolyn Rich; 7th Grade, Sheila DiMarco; 6th Grade. Scott Daniels, Legionnaire of Post 331, presented 2nd and 3rd place awardi to Mark Williams and Maureen McNulty and 1st

place to Jennifer Sherwood. who achieved 2nd place in the County contest.
