It's been a long time since English folk-rocker Donovan has issued an album, but his recent release. Lady Of The Stars (Allegiance. 7525 Fountain Ave.. Hollywood. CA 90046) shows he's changed little since his debut in the mid-60s. Donovan still lives in a simple, whimsical world. His soothing melodies and gentle voice are perfect relief from the frustrations ' of tjje modern day problems. Maybe Donovan borders, too often, on the childish side, but this is a good, solid record that will please the millions of his fans who. <0 bought his hits in the 60s. It's nice to have him back. Golden Earring's latest. Northeastwestsouth ( Polydor) is another strong collection of high powered rock and roll with infectious medodies and good musicianship. Golden Earring are far from being original, but they do know how to be consistent and in the hard rock world that says a lot. Thanks to MTV. Golden Earring will have no trouble selling this record. Poor Ron Thompson probably won't get much, if any. support from MTV. but his album Trea^ Her Like Gold (Takortiji/Alleg' iance. same address as above ) is worth your attention. Thompson plays a fine blend of rock, rockability. country, and blues that will find him favorably compared with the likes of The % Blasters. Dave Edmunds, and Cub Koda. His backing band. The Resistors, provide hot. dynamic support and Thompson plays a

mean guitar and has a decent voice. Fans of American music will enjoy this platter. One of the best blues albums in recent times has to be From LA to L.A. (Rounder. One Camp St., Cambridge. Mass. 02140). It features two extremely gifted bluesmen. Lonesome Sundown and Phillip Walker. These sides were

recorded over a number of years, and yet. the sound is consistently strong. Neither Lonesome Sundown nor Phillip Walker has received due credit by the masses, but From LA To L.A. proves we're deali n g with t w ,o guitarists/singers with special talent. Blues fanatics should not miss this excellent album
