Oyster Schooners Sail Quilted Sea

STONE HARBOR - Two Delaware Bay oyster schooners sailing in handstitched waters are the star entry of the second annual Wetlands Show tomorrow through Saturday. June 21-23. at the Wetlands Institute and Museum Other handmade theme quilts, a Victorian doll house, wood carvings and smaller needlework will also be displayed in the Marshview Hall. The two-masted bay schooners in full sail are Marion Glaspey's design for this year's institute

quilt to be raffled. The double bed spread will be unfinished but on view for the first time with the opening show. Raffle tickets will be available. THE Q I I L T ' S predominate colors are blue. aqua, green, red. violet and lavender, and it has flowing wave-shell stitchery along the borders, which have star squares to punctuate each corner The brands Needlers. a corps of focal volunteers, have toiled 438 hours to date to complete the handsome cotton quilt, which should be finished within the next five weeks. Chances will be sold for it until the drawing for a lucky winner, which will be held Oct. 13 this year. Proceeds will go to the institute. Glaspey, a talented artist and designer, is a Wetlands staff member and treasurer to the board at the institute. She completed the applique work and piecing after designing the spread, and some 10 volunteers from Stone Harbor. Avalon. Court House and Cape May are doing the h^nd quilting. They are: Helen Down. Adeline Little. Fran Maher. Mae Mehrhoff. Elsie Mott. Olive Prout. Edith Soltis. Elsie Snyder. Myrtle Wilson and Anna McHugh. THE NEEDLERS meet each Wednesday at l "'clock, have refreshments and work several hours on 'he current project Newcomers are welcome ;to join them On Sunday, the needlers | will be honored with a special tea from 2 to 4 p.m. ; by Wetlands Institute ; members in the Marshview Hall. Craftsmen Show Set CAPE MAY - NewJersey Designer Craftsmen at the Cape, sponsored by the County Art League, invites all craftsmen to participate in its show Sept. 2-30. The show will include original works in fiber, metal, glass clay, jewelry, leather, wood, paper, and mixed media. Works to be exhibited will be juried by slices ( up to five total ) , due July 14. It will be held at the Car riage House of the Physick Estate. I050» Washington St . . which includes galleries on two levels with ample floor space and glass front display cases. The opening, free to the public, will be held 3-6 p.m Sept 2. All works should be available for sale, and a 30 percent commission will be paid to the Art League.
