Dune Walks Added to Festival

SprfNE HARBIN? 1 Trij&tfffdugh the imigniflceaVf polling dunes of Ap« will be offered as a new jfeature of the second anmfal New Jersey Wings 'n Water Festival, a benefit for the Wetlands Institute Sept. 15 and 16. Beginning at 50th Street and Dune Drive, knowledgeable scientists will be on hand both Saturday and Sunday at specific times to provide identification of plants and animals,

wave and beach erosion information and the Avalon dune protection history. The High Dune Walks will be included as one of many events in Cape May and Cumberland Counties to celebrate the natural attractions of New Jersey's odan and bay shores during the festival. They are included with the admission fee. DUNES ARE natures bulkheads which help control erosion, flooding and

wind damage. In Avalon's case, the dunes have been carefully preserved or man-made and nurtured until stabilized by American Beach Grass. Beach Plum, Bayberry and Juniper. Animal life includes various birds, muskrats and raccoons. •The Wetlands Institute is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public understanding of and concern for the coastal ecosystem.
