He graduated from Camden Catholic • High School in 1941 and entered the seminary at St. Charles College, Catonsville, MD. He completed his studies at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, MD, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and a licentiate in sacred theology. HE WAS ordained at the Cathedral of the immaculate Conception, Camden, May 22, 1948. His first assignment brought him as assistant pastor to the parish where he is currently pastor, St. Teresa, Runnemede. After a brief time as assistant pastor at Holy Name. Cam do n, Fr Sharkey began graduate studies in canon law at the Lateran University in Rome. He received his doctorate in canon law from there in 1955. Returning to the Diocese of Camden, he was appointed vice chancellor of the diocese and a notarv in

the diocesan matrimonial i tribunal. Two years later, he became a prosynodal judge in the tribunal, i ON JULY 1, 1960, Fr. i . Sharkey was appointed i chancellor and held that 5 post for five years. June 10, 1961, h£ returned to Holy t Name^amden, as pastor. During his time there, he i was given the title i "Reverend Maorisignor" » when he was named a papal ^chamberlain in 1962 > and a domestic prelate in . 1964. When Msgr Sharkey ; completed his service as t chancellor he made > another return, this time to his boyhodd neighborhood, when he was appointed pastor of St. Joan of Arc. i He remained there over three years before he returned as pastor to St. : Teresa. Runnemede. Msgr. Sharkey has coni tinued as a prosynodal judge of the matrimonial tribunal. He is a member of the board of trustees of the diocesan newspaper, the Catholic Star Herald: a member of the incardination committee and the

conciliation committee Since, 1968, he has been censor librorum for the diocese and since 1969. he has been spiritual director for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In the past, he has served on the diocesan board of consultors, the priests' senate and the priests' personnel board.
