Lamanna Writes Column A weekly public health column by Cape May County Public Health Coordinator Louis J. Lamanna begins in the Herald and Lantern this week. Raised in Sea Isle City and educated in the local school systems. Lamanna. 43. is a life-long resident of Cape May County. Upon graduation from Wildwood Catholic High School. Lamanna served four years in the United States Air Force before beginning his career in public health He began his employ ment with the Capo* May County Health Department in 1964 as a public health trainee and subsequent l\ held several different positions within the depart men! including a two-year ji stint as assistant puhlic | health coordinator He was appointed to his present position as public healtrfi coordinator in August of 1974 His 1 0-year tenure as publicr health coordinator has been marked by the building of the depart ment's Public Health Center and the addition of such programs as family planning, speech therapy, health education, maternal and child health clinic, cancer detection, venereal disease and expanded laboratory and environ mental health services Lamanna has a Bachelor c of Science Degree from Rutgers University and a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. He is a member of the New Jersey Health Of ficer's Association, the County Health Officer's Association, the Cape May County Health Systems Agency, the American Lung Association of New Jersey (vice president), the New Jersey Board of License and Examinations, the Tuckahoe. Lions Club and many other professional organizations. Lamanna is married and resides in Palermo (Upper Township) with his wife, Lynne. and three children, Louis, Jr., Anthony, and Gina Marie.

I intend to explain the various health department services and programs and how you can use them to your benefit FOR THIS WEEK. Our department's health education program has routinely sponsored smoking-cessation clirfics. wellness seminars on such topics as 'Nutrition for Your Heart." "Strce Management." "Weight Control." and "Healing Grief" in order to help our citizens achieve this desirable high level state ol wellness.
