0 ( By I IBBY DEMP FORREST I | LATE JUNE. . .summer is nigh, but :B fleeting. It's harvest time already for fl many plants. Early risers are apt to find B the sun rises even earlier - a little past 4 SB a.m. this time of year. But as June comes B to a close, the sun starts to rise a little IB later each day. Such are the ways of IB Father Time — when summer is nigh, >B he's gradually edging toward autumn. j Independence Day is just a week away, , I just about everybody's favorite holiday. I IB The Declaration of Independence was ■ adopted on this day in 1776. It's always a IB day for speeches and fireworks. Most IB people seem to enjoy the fireworks a lot B more than the speeches, unless, of IB course, you are the speaker. The B fireworks displays always seem to pass IB too quickly. Not so with the speeches. j ■ While we humans like to get to cool H places on hot days, many of our plants B and animals revel in the heat. Cherries, B blackberries, raspberries, currants and IB gooseberries ripen in it, and so do the earB ly apples and peaches. Sunflowers are B growing rapidly now and will begin to j B bloom before hot July is over. So will lots ;B of otherwild things. Keep a lookout. j: j * * * ji I As July gets ready to make its debut, 'IB we want to go everywhere and do IB everything while summer abounds Here |B are some of the best eating places we like B to get to during the good old 'B summertime: j I JU-JU'S RANCH HOUSE. The ribs are B in at Ju-Ju's Ranch House, at 37th and |B Ocean Drive, Avalon, about the best rib :;B house you're going to find anywhere. B even if you're Texas born and bred I ] The recipes are finger lickin' delicious. ;B Our favorite is The Ultimate, bar-bq ribs jB and chicken combo, covered with a tangy B sauce that is unbeatable. Hubby likes the B bar-bq chicken, fixed from an old family B recipe. The kids go for the Philadelphia |B Italian hoagie with a delicious side order iB of cheese fries. There are specials every tB Wednesday and Thursday — $3.95 is all it IB costs for a big serving of spaghetti and IB meatballs, and a crunchy roll with butter. H This is a favorite of grand-pa's because ■ he gets a 10% discount. Dine in or take out )B at Ju-Ju's — either way the cookin' is fH delish. II ♦ * * ■ THE CHALFONTE. Time stands still m at The Chalfonte, 301 Howard Street, ■ Cape May where food has become an H honored tradition in this historic hotel,
noted tor boumern cooKing mat nas v become the focus of national interest. The ample meals are prepared as they have always been and served family style with special Southern delicacies. The menus are prepared by cooks who have been with the hotel for decades. Enjoy the cozy and intimate atmosphere of the King Edward Lounge for informal wine sampling Friday and Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evenings at 8 p.m. The Chalfonte offers Dinner-Concert packages Telephone for reservations 884-8409.
TWO MILE INN. Located between ■ Wildwood Crest and Cape May. right at Hj the water's edge on Ocean Drive, the Two H Mile Inn is an authentic crab house offer- H ing house specialties that are excep- H tionally tasty. We like to watch the sunset from the H; Top of the Mast Lounge, while nursing a I -<cool beverage and munching on Two I Mile's fried veggie basket (pepper. H mushroom, onion, cauliflower and zuc- Hi cini deep fried to perfection) Of course, H the Maryland Blue Claw crabs are what H brings a lot of people to Two Mile, in- H' eluding us. The char-broiler is always H turning out barbecued baby back ribs, ■ barbecued chicken and a thick, juicy H sirloin steak ^andwich thaCgoes over just H about any tafne of the day or evening. ■ Draught beq- by the pitcher or mug. IMPERIAL CHIN E S E I RESTAURANT. We have to admit our ■ most favorite kind of food has always I been Chinese food. Not just any old I Chinese food — we are very H discriminating about our Chinese food. I So, it stands to reason that the Imperial I Chinese Restaurant, at 5900 Landis I Avenue, Sea Isle City is one of our I favorite oriental spots Eat in or take-out — the mysterious I flavors of old China keep us well fortified. I at The Imperial. A special dish we like is I ; Beef with Snow Peas. AAther favorite is I ; Diced Chicken with Alrawds. The other H night we brought a parHp)f six and the I ! sampling back and fortlKyas a treat for I j all. There were several Hfties of Chinese I Americans sampling another tables — that says something atxSt}the popularity I j of the Imperial n DONNA'S PLACK^Mere's something I for everybody, no VnattH what their food I likes, at Donna's Pfafg. 107th st. and I | Third ave., Stone Harb®. a mini mall of I food and baked goods.
