Courtesy Van Hearing Tests

RIO GRANDE - Literature on a variety of remedial measures for hearing loss will be f available when the county Office on Aging Courtesy \ Van sponsors its on-board hearing tests at the four county-run senior citizen activity centers in July. Hearing impairment can have many different causes so that methods for alleviating the conditions can be quite varied. In every case, it requires a thorough examination and x advice from a family physician. an ear specialist or an audiologist. The Courtesy Van Hearing Test Program is a simple screening process to help senior citizens to become aware of any possible hearing difficulties. The tests, which take only several minutes, will be ad-

ministered by the Telephone Pioneers of America 81, who are member? of the Cape May County R.S.V.P. Program. THIS VOLUNTEER group has its own sophisticated audiometer machine which it has been using in an extensive tesfUng program in the local school systems. r Senior citizens who avail themselves of the hearing

tests on the van and are found to require a more detailed evaluation will be referred to the Speech Therapy Unit of the County Health'Department, where further testing will be on a non-fee basis. While hearing problems occur quite frequently among the older populations, the subject is not always given^ide-spread attention. As with any other medical condition, early detection of hearing loss can produce more promising remedies. Unfortunately, the on-set of deafness which goes untreated can become communication barrier whereby a person cannot carry on conversations, easily, with family and friends. THE HEARING Test

Program on the Courtesy Van is one of the many endeavors of the Office on Aging and the Board of Chosen Freeholders, to j enhance the quality of life of the older residents of Cape May County. The Courtesy Van with the Hearing Test Program will be at the following locations: Stainton Senior Center. Monday. July 9: Upper Township Senior Center. Monday. July 16: Airport Senior Center, Monday, July 23 and th£ North Wildwood Senior Center. Monday. July. 30. Testing at each of the sites will be 9 a.m. to 12 prm. This service is offered to any county resident 60 years of age and over. For further information on the testing, phone the office on Aging at 886-2784
