VALLEY GIRL * (Vestron) "PG" Though its title would indicate this is a drive-in, exploitation film, nothing could be further from the truth. Basically. rthis is the Romeo & Juliet theme done in a contemporary setting. It's a love story between I Julie (Deborah Foreman).

a valley girl, and Randy (Nicolas Cage) a Hollywood punk. Despite their different backgrounds the two are obviously in love and jpappy, until Julie's peers put pressure on her to break up the romance and return to her previous boyfriend. Cage and Foreman are a

perfect team, making this relationship strong and consistently believable. Director Martha Coolidge has done a marvelous job with a story that is both . funny and sad. The supporting cast, especially Julie's parents (Colleen Camp and Frederic Forrest), give Valley Girl added depth. It's a picture well worth seeing and should entertain romantic comedy fans of all ages.

DAWN OF THE DEAD (Thorn/EMI) "R" The second part of the Night Of the Living Dead trilogy is \ out on video and will cerItainly please horror buffs. Unlike the first part, this 'one has a more comic book approach. i \ Don't misunderstand me. I this is as bloody and gory I as you can get, but director m George Romero keeps it on y a purely fantasty level. j ■I Nothing comes close to the. terror of, let's say. the Russian roulette scene in the Deer Hunter. J For those who aren't aware, the Dead trilogy is about the dead Vising from their graves and feeding off the living. In this one, a small number of people have locked themselves in a Mall with the zombies stuck outside. Eventually, a motorcycle gang arrives >and there's a free-for-all between the good guys, the zombies, and motorcycle gang Not recommended for the squeamish, but Dawn of the Dead is another classic horror/film from the very talented Romero. THE N () R S E 1\1 E \ (Vestron) "PG" I've got to say. I find a number of episodes of The Fall Guy to be fun to watch. But this Viking picture starring Lee Majors is so bad it almost starts to be a comedy. The script, direction, and ac ting are all horrible For those interested, the plot deals with Vikings fighting indians in the "new world." The Norsemen is a total flop. BEASTMASTER (MGM/U.A.) "PG" This sword & sorcery movie is more for little kids than adults therefore, it lacks the punch and excitement of Conan the Barbarian. Still, it's a nice, entertaining picture. There's not a whole lot of action, which would make it difficult to view more than once, but the acting by Marc Singer, Rip Torn and Tanya Roberts is commendable and there are lets of well trained animals. NIGHT BEAST (Paragon) "R" This scienc^ fiction/horror film was made on a shoestring budget, yet the special effects are decent. The story is about an alien spacecraft's landing and its occupant— is a multitoothed monster with a laser— destroying a small town. But, before you rush out to buy it, be warned. The special effects are the only thing going for Night Beast, as the screenplay is full of holes and the acting is so painfully stilted it's hard to watch. More care should have gone into the £ direction of the actors, because Night Beast did have some potential for bea successful genre f ilm . __ *
