Edward V. McGuire J retired after 21 years of 1 service. A CMDR. MCGUIRE is a C native of Weehawken. NJ. M He graduated from the # Coast Guard Academy in A 1964. His first assignment % was as deck watch officer »j on the Cutter SfORIS, in f Kodiak. Alaska. A Since then he has served S as operations officer and J navigator on the Cutter f TANEY, executive officer t of a 180-foot ocean-going S bouy tender, and as comj manding officer of the f ocean-going bouy tender. 4 and as commanding officer 5 of the ocean-going tender 1 PA PA W in Charleston. S C. f. His shore assignments i have included Long Beach. ] Calif. . where he was rescue | coordinator and assistant r. chief of the search and

rescue branch, a tour at Governor's Island. N Y., as chief of all new construction. Also, even a tour in Tokyo. Japan, as the engineer responsible for repair, maintenance, and new construction for five LORAN-C Stations in Japan and the Marinas. Most recently he served as the chief of the Facilities Engineering Divisional the Recruit Training Center in Cape May. McGuire's awards and medals include the Coast Guard Commentation Medal, the* Coast Guard Achievement Medal. Unit Commendation, and the National Defense Service Medal. MCGUIRE HOLDS a bachelor's degree with honors in Mechanical Engineering and is a graduate of the University of Illinois. He has three children. Matthew. 16. Kevin. 13. and Ellen. 9. Following retirement McGuire and his wife Mary will reside in Court House. He will assume the position of executive director of the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor and will continue to work with the firm of McGuire & Vence Engineering located in Court House He and his wife plan to do as much sailing as possible in their 22-foot Dovekie as time and weather permit
