Trucks Boost Program
AVALON - The borough's recycling pro- ^ gram has received a great ■ boost. At a rental fee of $1 per year, the borough has obtained the ■'Eagerbeaver-' < recycling trailer i and a 1 - ton pickup truck from the Jersey Cape Shelter Workshop. The Eagerbeaver has compartments for glass, aluminum and newspapers, making cojleution and storage of these items easier. WHEN THE public |i works department collects recyclables during July, it wiM distribute information on recycling, sloyv-it and water conservation to each residence in Avalon. Included in the packet I will be a water-flo restric- - tor to be attached to a j shower or faucet to reduce fo water .use. This is not because of a water shortage but .topreduce the amount of water grring into the sewage system, and to reduce electric cost. It is an ail around conservation measure It is also re commend/d that residents wateflbrfly early in the morningmid late at
night to provide maximum pressure during peak use hours of the day. Everyone who participates in recycling is helping to (deduce the amount of trash going into i landfills at a cost of S26 per ton in tipping fees. There ■ • are dumpsters located at j,the Public Works building
for trash disposal— no con struction materials. There will be a bulk trash collection the second and third week in September, but this again does not in eluded construction materials. For information concerning recycling, trash or water phone 967-7697.

lessen the dangers of being alone: Hold regular fire drills i with the oldest child in | charge Tftach children how to ] dial emergency numbers ' and practice giving direc J lions on how to reach the R house in the event ihat help I from the fire' or police s department is required ' Have rehearsed phone i conversations so each child ft can be taught how to place f a call in case of an • emergency Tape your address and key phone numbers next to the phone Include your work phone number, the local emergency or ambulance number, the police, and the number of a neighbor who fs at home during the day. LEANT: A simple first aid kid at a designated spot and teach children" how to use it. Review such standard safety rules as not playing with matches, knives or scissors; not to use stove, oven or microwave; not to climb on furniture or ladders. Set up a snack center within easy reach which utilizes non-breakable con- I tainers. such as paper plates and plastic cups for a child returning home from school. Warn children not to let strangers into the house for any reason. Instruct children not to tell callers they are alone. Have children routinely call you at work to let you know when they get home Arrive home at a designated time and inform children if you're to be delayed. J
