Cape Stage Hosts Premiere
CAPE MAY - The world premiere of the prospective Broadway musical
What's in a Name? will be the attraction tomorrow. Friday and Saturday at
Cape May's "theater-under-the-stars" on the Victorian grounds of the Emlen Phvsick Estate. The Mid-Atlantic Stage ( will present the up-and-coming musical that spools the validity of Shakespeare's authorship. The zany hazards ol the publication, production, and censorship Sf dramaticwritings and explored in this rollicking musical myth. accokdim; to the musical's creators, a 1960 s work of highly speculative non-fiction titled The murder of the Man who was Shakespeare inspired the original musical What's in a Name? The liberetto's co-creator BasifKeko found the argument that Christopher Marlowe wrote what is now accepted as the Shakespearean works so convincing that he sketeehed out the plot of a musical mystery and turned it over to his collaborator. John Paul Hudson, to finish. The prolific young com poser Jason McAuliffe was handed the one existing copy of the original book and lyrics 10 years after the project had first been undertaken. Hence, the musical What in a Name'.' will premiere at the MidAtlantic Stage in conjunction with the performing arts students of the Mason Gross Graduate School of Fine Arts.
