Tournaments generate advertising dollars, printing, sales ol souvenir T-shirts, patches and emblems, citations and prizes, motel room sales and meals at m a n y restaurants Tournaments have sold more than one offshore bout to a participant who realizes that the 26-footer he is currently operating is a wee bit small lor that extra to or 20 miles he needs to get to the l>est fishing
After watching his cocompetitors breeZe by him a few times, more than one tournament angler is look ing at twin engined 30 or 34-foot boats to upgrade from his 26-footer. Bigger fish are found closer to the inlets and while there are still a lot of throwbacks. enough big fluke -are pre sent in the back bays to make tishing worth while Delaware Bay weaklish action has settled down to summer-style bait fishing with a few big fish mixed in with smaller weaks Fluke fishing in the bay remains good and some- big blues are being caught. Ocean fluke fishing is picking up Some weaks are being caught along with fluke. REPORTS: Ed Gilinorc of Stone Harbor floated a 154-lb. mako on the ocean outing on ("apt. Wall Render's Luck y Strike. Pa., caught 17 dozen large crabs on bunker bail. KINGFISH REPORT: Kingfish hyvc been reported in the surf Irom Ocean City south to North Wiidwood. Harry Moncrief and Dic k Davis bf Newfield had 50 kings with at least six double headers while fishing from the Avalon Fishing Pier with bloodworms. 'Hailing Port* Rule Change? WASHINGTON has announced it is seeking p ti b I i c c (i m m e n t o n whether to continue to re quire owners to mark on each vessel the name ol the port where it is registered with the Coast Guirrd. Current regulations require a vessel to fie marked with this hailing port in order lor it to be .documented. When the statutes that required the marking ot vessels to show a " hailing port' were repealed two years ago. the Coast Guard continued to require such markings through regulations As changes in the regit la - lions were made to reduce the number ol Coast Guard ports ol documentation, some vessel ow ners lound their vessels had to be marked with a hUiiing port i bearing little or no relation i ship to where the owner liv- I -I'd or where the vessel was ] normally berthed or used. ' After receiving a number . of complaints, the Coast Guard has decided to i reconsider the regulations i and is asking for comment ] on whether marking a hailing port on a vessel is necessary, and. if so. how 1 the port to be marked 1 should tie determined.
