Dear Ruth: I have been I on every diet I can find. I'm < still overweight and can't ! lose it. I checked with my < doctor, had lots of blood tests and he says I am fine. ( However, I'm always i thirsty and I don't sleep good at night because I f have to urinate so often. ■
Also, my grandmother weighed 240 pounds. Signed, Worried. Help! > Dear Worried: First of all, I'm glad the blood tests showed no health problems and that your doctor says you are fine. If you are still concerned about a specific ailment because of your continual thirst, question your doctor. I'm sure he will be happy to allay your fears in this regard and you can then stop worrying. THE TYPICAL day's menu which you sent me seems quite w,ell balanced. Since you often experience thirst, watch your sodium intake (bacon, salad dressing, diet soda, etc.). The solution could be as simple as that ; too much salt could be making you thirsty. Also, when you are buying foods make it a point to read labels. Many food ! companies have introduced -a line of low sodium products. Use them where possible. . ' You mention your grandmother's weight. Back when she was raising her * family there wasn't much stress on good nutrition or balanced meals. Menus were overloaded with nutritionally empty fats, starches, sugar, salt and cholesterol, resulting not only in over-weight but other health problems as well. HER WEIGHT should have no bearing on yours, for heredity plays a very small role in obesity. Exercise and proper eating habits help keep potential problems in check. Don't let worries about health become an excuse
for poor eating habits Often we'look for something physically wrong so that we may be "excused" from the discipline of selecting a proper diet. We can then say to our family and friends, "I'd
like to do something about my escalating weight but it is out of my control. It's not my fault that I'm overweight." DON'T LET this happen to you. And don't allow yourself to get dfpcourag ed. Start where you are
right now and you'll make it. I'll be cheering for you. If you need help getting started on a diet program, write to Ruth A/corn Wanberg. c/o The Cape May County Herald. Box 430. Cape May Court House. NJ 08210.

Recycling Update^ CAPE MAY - The city Environmental Commission has issued updated reminders for residents to expedite the current recycling program. It is noted that cardboard containers may be used for recyclables, but the boxes will be picked up along with the items. No plastic bags should be used for recyclables, and all containers holding items to be recycled would be labeled. Recycle tags can be obtained free from City Hall, the Welcome Center, and information booths. Recyclables should be n placed at a site visible from the front door away from regular trash, but not at the curb. Wins Honor COURT HOUSE - Thomas B.
