Command Changed By Coast Guard

CAPE MAY — Commander Patrick A. Wendt became commanding officer of Coast Guard Group and Air Station Cape May when he relieved Captain Lance A. Eagan at a change of command ceremony at the air station yesterday. The ceremony featured music from the Training Center Band, an inspection of station personnel Snd remarks by the guest speaker, Capt. Robert L. Johanson, chief of staff for ] the 3rd Coast Guard - District Headquarters in./ Governor's Island, N.Y. V. After serving two years as commanding officer of the group and air station, Capt. Eagan is heading to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D C., where he will be the chief of the Plans Evaluation Division. Commander Wendt came to the group after servdig as chief of the Helicopter Polar Operations Division * in Mobile, Ala. Hailing from Colchester, . Ct., Capt. Eagan graduated from the Coj^st Guard Academy in 1962 with a B.S. in Engineering. Upon commissioning he was assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter BARTARIA. manning the various Ocean Stations on the North Atlantic. Capt. Eagan entered Naval Flight Training and received his wings in 1965. Assigned to Air Station Brooklyn, he flew both the HU 16E Albatross and the

HH52A helicopter. He was atyong the first group of Coast Guard aviators who volunteered to serve in Vietnam on ex change duty with the Air Force. Stationed at Danang, Vietnam and later at Nakon Phanom Thailand; Capt. Eagan flew rescue missions in the HH-3E ' Jolly- Green Giant" helicopter. Upon his return to the Coast Guard, he became an HH 3F instructor pilot at the Aviation Training Center in Mobile, AI. In 1971 Eagan "earned a Master's Degree in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Ca. in 1976, he served as executive officer of Air Station Savannah, Ga.. until 1979 and then was assigned as executive officer of Air Station Kodiak, Ak. /jf Captain EAGAN came to Cape May as a distinguished graduate of the Air Forces Senior Service School, the Air War College at Maxwell AFB. Al. He was the Coast Guard's representative in the class of 1982. Capt. Eagan's next duty assignment will be chief.
