Blood Donor Plea ■ Spurs Outpouring

CAPE MAY — The County Chapter of the American

Red Cross sent a telegram June 23 to Chief Quarter

Master John E. Roads of the Coast Guard Training Center asking him to donate blood because the chapter was in need of his blood type. After a phone conversa tion with the Red Cross, Roads discovered that it t was also in need of three other blood types "I asked them if they would like for me to check with my company and see if I could find a .few more people with this blood type." Roads recounted. Roads, who is in charge of training members from other services who join/the Coast Guard, then started making arrangements . "I FOUND out that 25 out of the 50 people in my company had the needed blood types, 'and all of them offered to donate," Roads said The remaining 25 people in the company decided to follow suit and donate also, giving the Red Cross more then 50 pints of much needed whole blood A bus to transport Roads and his trainees was donated by the Adventure Trails Bus Co Roads says he called the charter service because of its past record of community involvement According to the Red

Cross, it is still in need of four blood types. B * , B - . O + and O - . Those of you have one of these types and would like to donate or those unsure of their blood type but who would like to give blood, should contact the Red Cross at 465-7382
