Dr. Ewing Writes Book on Gardening
AVALON - Dr. Agnew R. Ewing of West Grove, Pa., and this community has published a book called "Gardening From Ignorance to Bliss." The book has been called "a beautiful combination of sound, practical, down to earth gardening commonsense, and homely philosophy and good neighborliness." Ewing semi-retired, gave up his 22nd Street garden several years ago because he became "involved in so many things I didn't have time anymore." He used to amaze I neighbors with the lima beans, cabbage, lettuce. I string beans and potatoes I that resulted from his "weekend gardening." He and his wife, I Margaret, have been I spring-summer Avalon 9 residents for more than 30 years. Ewing, school physician 1 for the Avon Grove Area I School District for 43 years,
said much of the information in his new book came from Frank Church Sr., now deceased, of Church's Seashore Nurseries in Erma. Among Ewing's writings was a history of Avalon produced about 15 years ago. He got his MD at the University of Pennsylvania in 1937 and interned at Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia.
