I STONE HARBOR - ■ After two weeks a tight race is shaping up in the Stone Harbor Recreation Department Little League The Panthers won two of three this past week to retain a one-game lead over the Aces and Eagles The ; Wildcats are two games off the pace. The Panthers picked up victories over the Wildcats ; and Aces 6-4 and 8-7 respec- £ tively, before being derailed by the Eagles. 5-4. In the wild win over the Aces, the Panthers trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the fifth when Ed Hogan sparked a five-run rally with a tworun double. He scored on an error on the play. In the top-^f the sixth, Hogan experienced some wildness, walking four batters and giving up a tworun single to Chris Reuf. before giving way to Rob Fischer for the save. JOHN MENDER led the Eagles over the Panthers Friday night by clouting a pair of triples and pitching a complete game, striking out 14. The game see-sawed back and forth and was knotted up at four going into the last inning. After Mendek set down the Panthers. Fischer took the mound to try to push the game into extra innings. After a walk, infield hit, and an intentional walk to load the bases. Fischer bounced one by the catcher to plate Brian McGowan with the winning run The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak, dating back to last season, by the Panthers The Wildcats picked up their only win of the season with a 6-5, nine-inning win over the Eagles Tim Hand and Mark Hackett connected for back to back doubles to open the bottom of the ninth for the win. Mendek suffered the loss THE GAME of the season so far was also between the Wildcats and Eagles Joe Henry of the 'Cats and Mendek hooked up in a classic pitching dual, both tossing onehitter. CAPE MAY - Atlas Motor Inn and National Associates remained atop the standings in the Cape May Men's Basketball League as each notched a win this past week. The Atlas downed Steger's Beach Servio^his Tuesday. July 17, 83 to 61 as Pat Holden paced the victors with 24 points. Steger's Mark Ennals netted 22 points in a losing cause. 1 National Associates put I it to Kona Sports as they ; trounced Kona 102 to 70. Bob Jackson was the game's leading scorer as he poured in 31 points for National Associates. John Linnington paced Kona with 27 points. IN OTHER league
action: Sports N Stuff handed Atlas Motor Inn its first loss as it beat Atlas 80 to 60. Sports-N-Stuff used the balanced scoring of Jim Magee, 16 points. Tommy Dollinger. 15 points, and Kyle Anderson. 15 pointy to down Atlas Henry Wtjje scored 17 points for the losers. Barry's Clothes nipped Sports N Stuff 49 to 44 as Reggie Taylor led all scorers with 22 points. Tom Dollinger chipped in 16 points for Sports N Stuff.
