I Midlantic Attains I Earnings Record
I EDISON - Midlantic I Banks Inc. achieved a I record earnings perforI mance during the second I quarter of 1984 I Robert Van Buren, chairI man of the board and chief I executive officer, of | Midlantic Banks Inc., anI nounced that for the three I months ended June 30, Midlantic reported net income of $15.6 million, comi pared to $10.9 million for the second quarter of 1983. I Earnings per share were $.99, up from $.83 reported - for the same period last year. \ Midlantic )> net income for the first six months of 1984 rose to $29.7 million for $21.2 million reported for the same period last year, / an increase of 40.5 percent. Mid-year 1984 earnings per j share were $1.89 compared , with $1.62~for the first half , Of 1983.
THESE 1984 figures reflect the acquisition of Greater Jersey Bancorp in August, 1983, and a two-for-one common stock split on May 1, 1984 Midlantic's continuing strong performance resulted principally from a significant increase in loans to a broad based cross section of borrowers At June 30, Midlantic total assets reached a record high of $6,576 billion, up4 from $4,473 billion a year earlier. Total loans increased to $3,866 billion from $2 643 billion at June 30, 1983. Total deposits grew to $5 194 billion from $3 613 billion a year earlier DURING THE second quarter, Midlantic completed its acquisition of Union Trilst Co. of Wildwood creating a new affiliate, Midlantic National Bank/Union Trust. With the addition of this affiliate which has six branches in Caoe May County, Midlantic Banks Inc. now operates a network of 185 offices throughout New Jersey. In addition, Midlantic has out-of-state offices in Florida, New York, North Carolina, Illnois and Pennsylvania, and international offices in London. Hong Kong and the Cayman Islands. Midlantic's bankrelated affiliates are engaged in factoring, leasing. mortgage banking, trust and international activities.

North Cape May, Cape May Court House, Sea Isle and Ocean City. First Jersey's George - system includes automated teller machines and Bank-by-Phone, which allow customers to bank anytime of the day or night, on weekends and holidays throughout the year. The North Wildwood George machine is located in front of the First Jersey /South branch office at 22nd Street and New Jersey Avenue. There are also George machines in supermarkets, casinos, business districts and residential neighborhoods throughout six counties of southern New Jersey. IN ADDITION to its own locations in New Jersey, George also is a member of the CashStream and Cirrus banking networks This network affiliation means that George users may use any automatic teller machine belonging to other banks in New Jersey and across the country First Jersey will celebrate its newest George opening with a special ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 9, and by offering giveaway prizes to anyone who takes a George demonstration at the North Wildwood branch. i
