Traffic Up On Bridge For June
NEW CASTLE. DEL - During June, traffic on the Delaware Memorial Bridge increased 130.390 vehicles from June. 1983. The statistics announced James C. Harkins. general manager of the bridge, showed that bridge traffic for the month was 1,877,669 vehicles compared to 1.747.279 vehicles for June, 1983. an increase of 7.5 percent. Bridge traffic for the 12-month period ended June 30. 1984. was 20.197.306 vehicles compared to 19.275.324 vehicles for the 12-month period ended June 30. 1983. an increase of 4.8 percent .
Avalon Nabbed 126 Speeders During June AVALON - The June police report filed by Chief Joesph Foley indicates that the department has been busy with speeding violations and noise,arrests. The report shows 126 speeding/violators, 43 noise, 8 drunk driving. 100 other traffic violations and 112 criminal arrests. Drivers on Dune Drive tend to ignore the 25-mile-hour speed limit signs, as well as those on Ocean Drive, the chief said. There continue to be problems with trespassing over the dunes despite the many sign posted throughout the area The dunes are the island's natural barrier against storm erosion A lifeguard has been posted on the beach at 12th street for the safety of anyone who insists on ignoring the posted warnings against swimming and surfing in this area of shifting rocks and currents.
