Nutrition Expert Honored on Show
MAYS LANDING - The National and New Jersey Associations of Extension Home Economists recently applauded Edith V. Faison, Rutgers Community Assistant for outstanding accomplishments in nutrition education. Edith was recognized for having presented her Nutrition Puppet Show to 30,000
children (Kindergarten through third grade) in Atlantic & Cape May Counties during the past 10 years. Using four skits which she wrote, Faison teaches youth nutrition using members of the sesame Street and Muppe! gang, specifically Miss Piggy. . Kermit the Frog, the •Cookie Monster, Bert, I Oscar the Grouch, and Er- I nie. She speaks and even I sings to help make her nutrition messages both meaningful and enjoyable to her young audience. Speaking through favorite characters of the youngsters, Edith is a pro at capturing and keeping their attention. The children tell edith that learning about nutrition is fun and they have sent her hundreds of letters telling her what they learned and how •
— they enjoyed the show. SHE IS particularly/ aware of the importance of \ nutrition and its relationg ship to health for all family members, both youth ^nd idults. After each presentation she conducts a /ollow-up to be certain that her audience gained some e <nowledg%^pf good nutrition. She realizes that if they put this knowledge to work, they will be healty ^ and have a better life. H| ! In addition to the Puppet Show program. Faison presents a packaged program for adults titled 'Breakfast, the most Important Meal" She has taught over 1,000 adults through this presentation. H A staff member of the H Rutgers Cooperative Ex- ** tension Service, Nutrition Education Program, Cape May County, Edith conducts a program in Cape May City. She teaches nutrition to adults one-to-one in their home and in r. small groups. She has L organized a nutrition 4-H 4 club and its members are taught foods and nutrition, * too.
