A Magnolia Solution For West Wildwood 0

WILDWOOD - Residents of Magnolia Avenue, a city street, can anticipate county snow removal between New Jersey Avenue and Park Boulevard this winter. And signs directing traffic to West Wildwood will appear on Wildwood streets for the first time. Those are among the results of negotiations after West Wildwood complained that it was "locked in" by Wildwood 's one-way-east regulation for Glenwood Avenue, county Route 614,

from Park Avenue east to the boardwalk. THE ISSUE came up in June when the freeholders, piqued at Wildwood's refusal to make Glenwood two-way, declined to consent to resolutions the city had passed providing r one-way streets and pa. k ing limits. County okay was necessary for state Department of Transportation approval The freeholders were responding to former West Wildwood Mayor Herbert Frederick's complaint that westbound motorists could

not use Glenwood to get to the borough because it was one-way eastbound Frederick is a Republican candidate for freeholder in the fail election "West Wildwood feels locked in, and rightfully so." explained Neil 0. Clarke, county engineer He pointed out that West Wildwood wanted Glenwood two-way in and out of West Wildwood because it is a county road and county maintained. Clarke had written Wildwood Mayor Earl Ostrander in May asking that Glenwood be returned to two-way because "officials and residents of West Wildwood. . feel they should have county road access in and out of their communityClarke suggested Glenwood could be widened by two feet on each side, or have parking eliminated on one side. Wildwood wouldn't buy it. Instead, it suggested traffic use Magnolia Avenue and Park Boulevard to get into West Wildwood. Clarke told the Herald and Lantern that was not a good answer because "Magnolia is not really a good candidate for a county road; it doesn't fit the typical mold." But that was. in fact, the result of negotiations July 17 among officials from the county, Wildwood and West Wildwood • The county will place signs directing New Jersey Avenue traffic to enter West Wildwood by going west on Magnolia, south on Park, and west on Glenwood. • A traffic signal will be erected at Magnolia and Park • And the county will plow Magnolia, even though it's not a countyroad Those two Wildwood traf fic ordinances the freeholders sat on back in June breezed through the freeholder meeting last week T^jey made no comment
