Born In the USA i Columbia ) is a wonderful new release from Jersey s favorite son. Bruce Springsteen As can be expected, it's ' urban rock and freely bor rows from his fifties' and sixties, inspirations, yet sounds refreshingly original. Y Springsteen s vocal are tough, emotional, and powerful : he literally feels - every word he sings His band — especially guitarist Steve Van Zand! and saxophonist Clarence Clgrfions — gives him jftrong support y There probably hasn t been a singer with such a hot backing band since James Brown cut sides with the original Flames The commercial success of Born In the USA is already ensured but . unlike many hit records that are sold on hype instead of merit, this record by Spr ingsteen deserves to be bought BANVVXK X.M.XS debut album was a lot of tun. but its second <on London Records) is a complete letdown The spry, bouncy vocals now sound tired and mechanical The tunes are directionless and depend on monotonous rhythms that are obviously being i aimed at the rock discos Hopefully.
