STARCRASH (Embassy) "PG"' This science fiction film should win over those who like the more simple. Buck Rogers-style of fantasy. Cult star Caroline Munro is assigned by the Star Emperor i Christopher Plummer) to save his planet and locate his lost son. Munro. with the help of a wonderfully entertaining robot and an alien (played by Marjoe Gortner) goes off into the unknown to try to save the day. Despite its low budget, the special effects are impressive. the story-line simple but strong, and the acting perfect for this visual comic book movie. It's unfortunate the much talked about sequel never was made, because Starcrash is the type of film that will please both the young and old. XTRO (Thorrt/EMI) "R" This is the complete opposite of Starcrash, as this science fiction film concentrates more on the horror aspect. Unlike ET. XTRO shows that aliens aren't always friendly. This is a very scary film with incredible special effects that are? probably a bit too much for younger viewers (or those with weak stomachs). But those who are brave enough will find a movie that has a taut script and excellent acting. XTRO has become a verypopular cult film and dedicated science fiction/horror fanatics should check it out. STRANG E BREW (MGM/UA) "PG" For some reason this was a dismal failure at the box office. The characters of Bob and Doug McKenzie became popular through the late night comedy show SCTV and it seemed a surefire bet that Strange Brew would be a hit.

Apparently, the two ! worked better on the small screen, which is why, all of i a sudden, people are praisi ing the video of Strange Brew The story is rather I weak, bui that only adds to the bizarre Bob and Doug i approach to humor, i Those of us who spent late nights watfching SCTV want jokes abhnt beer. ; doughnuts, and the "CanaI dian" lifestyle, and i Strange Brew has plenty of those. The best part of the McKenzie brothers (created by the super talented Dave Thomas and Kick Moranis) is the fact that they offer basic, simple, almost childlike relief from today's tormented i world. When there are major issues like who'll get the last beer or who ate all the doughnuts to fret about, who needs worries about nuclear war? Now that Strange Brew has shown people stiil care about the McKenzie brothers, let's hope another film will be made. This team deserves a second chance. THE TRIP (Vestron) "NR" Here's a real period piece. Legendary director Roger t'orman made this picture about LSD during the late 60s with a cast that included Peter Fonda, Bruce Dern, Dennis Hopper and Susan Strasberg. It was written by Jack Nicholson, though the dialogue is now, at times, painfully dated. Still The Trip is worth viewing, if not for its obvious camp appeal then for the chance to see some of today's stars in early roles. Peter Fonda is a TV commercial director who is frustrated with life, in the process of a divorce ( from Susan Strasberg) and open to a new experience. His friend (Bruce Dern) turns him onto LSD, which a they get from Dennis Hop£per. The rest of the film . § deals with his LSD ex^perience and. at the time, sthe special effects were ^probably considered rather .^revolutionary. Now, it's jjsorta funny 1
