Bill Hits At Drug Money WASHINGTON. DC - Emphasizing the need to apply a tourniquet to the flow of drug money out of the country," House Crime Subcommittee JChairman Bill Hughes 1D-NJ1 and House Banking Subcommittee Chairman Joseph Minish i D-N'J ) offered, and the Crime Subcommittee has approved the Money Laundering Penalties Act of J 984. The/legislation will .strengthen enforcement of those portions of the Bank Secrecy Act designed to halt the transportation of the proceeds of crime out of this country ••THIS BILL is another part of our assult on crime .'It will strengthen the i economic attack on drug traffickers." Hughes said "If we can block the flow of drug and organized crime money out of the country by passing this Money Laundering Penalties Act. if we can seize the proceeds of drug trafficking through passage of my pending forfeiture legislation, and if we can close the loopholes which have facilitated money laundering through casinos and financial institutions. then we can slash the profits of these criminals and put many of theik out of business."
