ERWIN STUDIED at Hartwick College ih New York and the University of Rhode Island, earning his doctorate at the University of Maryland in zoology. He has been working on habitat relationship of nesting colonial birds, census methodology and feeding ecology at P^tuxent since 1978. His slide show at the institute will explore the history of concern for waterbirds. their early exploitation followed by legal protection, early censusing, current population monitoring objectives and v future needs. Monitoring covers questions such as habitat change, quality of Wetlands, human distrubance effects and breeding success and potential. The Wetlands Institute will present a series of such Saturday night lectures f throughout August.
