You may not know, flL-vM , I though, that the unopened \1 mViY V XX flower buds, young fruits \\Njb'\ljv Alj / v and freshly opened flowers are all good food for humans. j \ \ ^ A mature milkweed plant may have a dozen or more flower clusters which you can pick early in .the season when the short-stem ed, closely packed buds give the cluster a wpoley ball appearance. Or, wait until each bud looks like a green pea and harvests good green vegetable. The newly opened, mauve pink flowers may also be used as a vegetable to be boiled and buttered before serving. My favorite recipe calls for 1 cup of washed milkweed flower buds combined in a saucepan with 2 cups chicken broth, 2 cups noodles, and 1 tablespoon chopped § onion. Cook until noodles are soft.
