' OSTERMAN WEEKEND i THORN/EMI ) "R" Based on the i Robert Ludlum novel, this espionage thriller isSvorth seeing It's full of plot\wists, action, and talentea acting. At times parts are a bit cons fusing, but ill is saved by j the cast. Especially the' gifted Jonn Hunt and Rutger Hajkier. Spy fans should appreciate the excitemertf^surprises. and intrigue involved. An excellent choice to rent or buy. E V 1 L D E A D (THORN/EMI) "R" Those who enjoyed the Exorcist might want to pick up Evil Dead. This low-budget horror film deals with some kids who go off on a weekend in the country. Sound like another crazed killer in the woods story? It's not. They happen upon a ritual that, once it's read, bring back to life
some very angry spirits. One by one. each teenager becomes possessed, until only one • normal" person remains. Despite its limited budget, the special effects are incredible. Horror fans w|ll immediately appreciate the hard work that went into these "gore" effects Those who aren't as sympathetic will probably hit the stop botton and never watch the Evil Dead in its entirety. This is a very scary picture that should give chills to even the most hardened horror fanatic. Others beware! THAT WAS ROCK ( Media i "NR" This edits together two of the most exciting rock and roll movies ever made. T A M I. Show and T.N.T. Show. These films were shot in front of I \\£y audiences in the mid-60s and featured the /incredible talents of The (Rolling Stones, James Bcimnj, Supremes, Bo DidUUK'VI"", ",u
dleyT£t<j. While it's nice to be able to pick up this tape, I have a tough time praising it, knowing they brutally cut rout some of the most inventive. exciting groups of the 60s. Seriously, how could w they edit out The Byrds. a group that was important enough to influence The Beatles (especially on Rain" and "Nowhere Man"). Very little care went into this and while it's nice to see the performances that are included on That Was Rock, true rock and roll fans have to bristle with anger at the omissions Shame on you' HAMMETT (Warner) PG" This is an old little film that promises a lot. but never even comes close to delivering./ Frederic Forrest plays; detective writer Dashiel Hammett, who finds his r^al work as dangerous as his fictional one What makes this interesting are the use of sets instead of location shooting, giving it a sur realistic edge and the talented Frederic Forrest. However, the absurd dialogue, choppy editing, and pretentious direction ruin whatever potential Ham mett had as a film It's unfortunate, because the basic premise shows things could have been a lot different YOUNG DOCTORS IN LOVE (Vestrom "PG" Basically, this comedy takes the style of Airplane and puts it in a hospital setting It isn't nearly as fun- , ny. yet there are moments that are truly inspired lunacy Not essential view- | ing. but certainly entertaining.
