SIC Beach Patrol Plans Island Run
SEA ISLE CITY -*The city beach patrol will hold its island run, which covers approximately 13 miles, beginning 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. The race will be started by Mayor Dominic C: Raffa Registration is between 11 s^fi^nd 4:30 p.m. at the Riffa Community Center oft John F. Kennedy boulevard. Pre-registrants must pick up shirt and number at registration. Registration closes at 4:30 p.m. the day of the race.
THE COURSE starts at Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Headquarters. 44th street and the beach, north on Promenade to 29th street ramp, onto beach to Strathmere Jetty, return over same route continuing south to 57th street ramp, onto beach to Townsend's Inlet bridge, return over same route to finish in front of beach patrol headquarters. or delivered1 by Aug 14) Post entry day of race will be 57 AWARDS OF T-shirts will be made to the first 1,200 registrants. $feirts will be issued at registration prior to the race Men-trophies 1st to 10th place Medals to 11th to 25th place. Trophies to first and second place winners of the following age groups: (17 and under). (30-34), (35-39), (40-44), (45-49), (50-54, (55 and over ) . Women - same as men. cond, and third place beach patrols. The number of entries per patrol is unlimited The first five men across the finish line comprise a team. To represent a particular beach patrol a guard must meet , the following requirements : He'she must have worked 30 days prior to the race, and those 30 days must be served during uthe 1984 season for the beach patrol being represented. Team trophies will be awarded to the first, second. and third place running clubs. i

the wildwoods -l The kids will have their chance to fish on one of the "party boats" Friday, Aug. 17. The event is the Annual Angelo Versaggi Kids' fishing Rodeo, sponsored by The Wildwoods Rotary Club, and Department of Tourism of the City of Wildwood, City of North Wildwood, and Borough of Wildwood Crest. Registration will begin at the Wildwood Information Bureau, on the Boardwalk at Scheilenger Avenue 9:30 a.m. Aug. 13. Youngsters must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when . registering.^ Only 150 youngsters betWeen the ages of 8 and 14 years will be registered and registration will close when that number is reached. Contestants must have registration tags in order to board the fishing boats. UPON RETURNING to the dock at the Wildwood Yacht Basin, there will b*a grand prize awarded by the City of Wildwood for the largest fish caught on all three boats. On each boat, there will be prizes awarded for the heaviest edible fish and the largest number of edible fish. \
i The boats will leave for their afternoon of fishing fun at 12:30 and will return loaded with their "catch of the day'^at 4:30 p.m. This year the boats taking part in the fun afternoon of fishing are the Adventurer II captioned by Joe McTommoney ; The Starlight, captained by Jimmy Chicchitti, and the Cherokee, with Capt. John Hall. Weather permitting, the fishing will be in the Atlantic Ocean or the Delaware Bay. THIS IS is trip for kids only — the parents are not allowed due to limited space. But parents shouldn't worry or hesitate to allow their youngster to participate, as every precaution will be taken by the Rodeo Committee to ensure the care and safety of all the young people. Each child must come prepared with his or her own equipment. Bait will be provided. Only one hook is permitted on a line at a time and it is recommended that at least a five ounce dipsy be used. CAPE MAY - Dekelco captured the American League regular season championship as it completed the 1984 season with a 24-4 record. Dekelco ended the season with its fourth loss on the year as it dropped the final game to the Rusty Nail 9 to 5. Bud Chiriaco led the way for the Nail as he launched a three-run home run. On the previous Wednesday Dekelco destroyed Cape Abstract 25 to 5 behind a total team effort. EECEN upped its record to 20-6 with a win on Monday as it shut out the Chief Petty Officers 11 to 0. THE RUSTY NAIL kept its playoff hopes alive as it downed T.M.U. on Monday 19 to 18. Dave Weinberg and Will Mendo helped their cause with three hits each The Rusty Nail continued its winning ways on Tuesday as it defeated the Miami Inn 14 to 10 Marty Franco. Panthers in First By Slim Margin
STONE HARBOR - With the fourth week fo stone Harbor's Lions Club Little League complete, the Panthers are clinging to a slim one-game lead over the Eagles. Each team picked" up early week wins, wits the Eagles ripping the Wildcats 9-6 and the Panthers holding off the Aces 9-7. Ed llogan picked up the victory for the Eagles with plate help from/ John Mendek and Billy Hampton. Mark Hacket suffered the loss. Kevin Wentling pitched the Panthers over the Aces and clipped in with two hits, and did Rob Fischer. Ed Monahan handled the pitching chores for the Aces. THE PANTHER'S and Eagles then squared off in , a battle for first place in a game that was suspended because of darkness after eight innings and completed the following day. after Mendek walked and Hogan singled They stretched the lead to 2-0 in the third as Hogan again singl ed in a run. The Panthers tied the game in the fourth. After Dave Pusey singled, four consecutive walks forced in two runs The game remained tied at two through eight innings as B.J. J arose and Mendek battled it out on the mound until it became too dark to continue The next morning the Panthers led off the top on the 9th with Fischer driving home Bill Romberger with the game winner. The » Eagles fell to second place as the Panthers took a one game lead. THE WILDCATS stayed within striking distance with 6-2 decision over the Aces. Tim Hand went the distance for the Cats and chipped in with a 2 for 3 night at the plate, including a triple. Hackett and Joe Kauterman also tipped three-baggers for the winners.
