No Job Benefits j No Workers' Taxes?

TRENT ON - New Jersey workers who are categorically, ineligible to collect Unemployment Insurance benefits would be exempt from paying the unemployment tax conitributions under a bill i A-2419) introduced recently by Assemblyman Guy F. Muziani (R-Cape May, ^^Turhberfand ) . " Current law prohibits full-time students, corporate officers and holders of 5 percent or more equity in the corporation for t which they -wprk from col- ) lecting unemployment benefits.'" Muziani explained, "'but these people still must pay unemployment taxes, along with their employers." ""THE LEGISLATION I have introduced would exempt both the worker and his employer from having to pay the unemployment insurance contribution if the worker is already ineligible due to his status as a corporate officer, 5 percent owner or full-time student." Muziani said. "It makes no sense to require someone to pay for a benefit that he or she can -never receive. That is the ultimate in governmental hypocrisy. "Many New Jerseyans have had their standards of living severely damaged by the recent amendments ^ to the unemployment com-

pensation law which ruled out payments to corporate officers. 5 percent owners and students." said Assemblyman Muziani "THE DEBATE, among the public over the propriety of those changes is still going on. But regardless of whether you believed those

restrictions to be right or wrong, it is a matter of - basic justice to balance the equation: No one should be forced to contribute to a fund from which he cannot share the proceeds. "To allow the law to remain as it is would be the same as telling an entire

class jol working people that they will never be permitted to collect Social Security benefits, but that they must continue to pay intcy th£ Social Security system f^The government should ndt be allowed to have it Doth ways." Muziani said.
