Speed Brings Woe To 52 in Avalon
AVALON — It was life in the fast lane for borough streets as local police issued 52 tickets for sppeding out of a total of 98 summonses from July 30 through Aug. 3. This was included in the weekly report of Chief Joseph E. Foley .Parking tickets showed an increas^ed of ■one, to 64, for the second week in a row. The breakdown follows: Traffic tickets, 98 — speeding, 52 , no licenses or registration in possession, 16; failure to keep right, 6;
careless driving, 3; stop sign, 3; red light, 2; drunk driving, 2; driving while revoked, 2; refusing a breath test 1; other, 11. Criminal arrests, .55 — openly displaying alcohol, 15; noise, 6 (4 on the weekend); trespassing, 3; aggravated sexual assault (rape) 1; burglary, 1; possession of marihuana 1 ; disregard police officer, 1 ; urinating in public, l; littering, 1 ; other, 5. Transfer Station t On Full BURLEIGH - The Cape # May County MUA's Solid Waste transfer station is operating on a full schedule * after delivery of the long awaited equipment According to Ted O'Neill, solid waste manager, a 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. operating schedule is in effect. j "The authority has finally been able to secure 4 enough equipment to fully operate the transfer station facility." O'Neill said The site is still undergo ing some construction activity but the rolling stock, specifically the- large com ' pactors necessary to transport the solid waste from the transfer station *10 the landfill, have arrived and are in service " O'Neill said limited ser vice to all 10 communities in the southern part of the county began last week as the equipment started to arrive "We handled up to l^[, tons a day on the limited schedule.
