Fr. Fitzsimmons Cathedral Pastor
CAMDEN — A former associate pastor at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Cape
May, Fr. Eugene J. Fitzsimmons, has been named pastor of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception here, effective Aug. 22. Fr Fitzsimmons, who has been serving as pastor of St. John the Baptist. Camden, was appointed by Bishop George H Guilfoyle. He succeeds Msgr. Salvatore J. Adamo, who will become pastor of St. Vincent Pallotti parish, Haddon Township. A NATIVE of Newark. Fr Fitzsimmons was ordained to the priesthood in Camden June 1 1 , 1960, after completing theological studies at St. Charles Seminary, Overbrook, PA.
He served as associate pastor at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Cape May. until his appointment to graduate studies at Villanova University in September 1961 He was assigned to the faculty of Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill, in September 1962, where he served until October 1966 Fr. Fitzsimmons pursued graduate studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he received a doctorate in canon law in June 1969. He has served on the diocesan Tribunal since 1966, as advocate, procurator and defender of the bond, and
as a member of the diocesan ecumenical commission from 1974 to the present. Fr Fitzsimmons was an associate pastor at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from 1971 until his appointment as administrator of St. Martin de Porres, Hammonton. in September 1975.
1st Baptist Has Guest WILDWOOD - A guest minister, Dr. Fred H. Heather will preach at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at the Fist Baptist Church. His sermon is entitled "Church in Politics - NEVER! * Religious Concern with Government - ALWAYS?" Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. A nursery is provided for Sunday School and for the 11 a.m. Worship Service. There is also a Junior Church. Recital Set By Flutist
CAPE MAY - Flutist Alan Handelsman will perform in recital at the Church of the Advent, Franklin and Washington Streets, 8 p.m. tomorrow as a part of its Thursday evening recital series. Alan is a graduate of West Chester State College and student of Harold BerK__», nett in New York. He is currently working in the Philadelphia-South Jersey area as a free lance musician. " He played for many years in Atlantic City, with the Ocean City Pops Or-
chestra, and at the Schubert Theater in Philadelphia. HANDELSMAN recently toured the United States and Japan for 16 months with the Glenn Miller Orchestra as solo clarinetist. ' He will be performing works by Rizet-Borne, Poulenc, Bach and GoddartL, accompanied by Henry Pemberton, pianist. The recital is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be taken to benefit tie Music Endowpient -Fund of the church.
