Has a Part At Olympics LOS ANGELES, CA. - While thousands of athletes are competing in the 1984 Olympics her§, Jeffrey Torchio from Vineland, along with 700 other Coast Guard men and women, has an important role in support of the summer games The Coast Guard is responsible for maritime safety during the games and will be providing safety for Olympic boating events, protecting visiting I dignitaries and guarding I the commercial ports I against possible terrorist I activities. Coast Guard preparation for the Olympic games began two years ago at the 11th Coast Guard District office in Long Beach, Ca. Torchio, on special duty from Coast Guard Station Cape May, is a Port i Securityman Third Class. While at the Olympics, he is a crewman on board a rigid hull inflatable boat patroling the Olympic venue areas. Torchio volunteered for the assignment.
