Bus Firm Penalized By State TRENTON - James A Crawford . Assistant I Commissioner of Transportation Services, has announced that the Depart ment of Transportation has fined Islander Transit Company Corporation of Wildwood Crest $1,200 and suspended its temporary operating authority for special door-to-door operations for alleged violations of New Jersey statutes covering gaming and unfair trade practices. In May DOT'S Office of Regulatory Affairs granted Islander temporary authority to operate van special door-to-door service, followed in June by temporary authority to offer small bus special door to-door service within Atlantic and Cape May Counties HOWEVER. IN midJuly, the Motor Carrier Inspection Unit began an investigation of Islander s service following com plaints concerning alleged raffles and special incentives being offered to riders. As a result of the investigation, Islander's temporary operating authority was suspended from Jujy 25 through Aug. 8 and the company was fined $1,200 In addition. Islander must post notices concerning their alleged illegal operations and advising all . patrons of their door-to-door service between July 11 and July 25 that they are entitled to receive the item originally advertised as part of the package Administrative hearings concerning Islander's pending position for regular route authority will be held by the Office of Administrative Law at a later date
