(From Page 6) ardent gardener Bud can give youj a rough estimate of how/many plants he's put ii/place and Lily has a pretty good idea too. TheySived for years next to Judge Geroge Gowan Parry^ summer home, where we spent so many happy weekends as a teenager and had fun talking about what a formidable but dearly-loved man he was. Thanks to Toddy and the Leivers we had an unforgettable treat. • • • OUR REGULAR readers, and we've been told we have some, know "Our dog has fleas," our house had fleas, we had fleas and were ready to slit our throats. We took Long Louie to Mi-Shagran Kennels in CMCH and had him de-flead. It was a great job and we brought him home a happy dog who could sleep for the first time in weeks. f - That lasted two days. '"When he walked into the house it was akin to throwing him into a bowl full of piranhas. It was the weekend and we knew they'd be filled, but we called Mi-Sh^gran in desperation. The angel who owns the facility said "Ob no, that poor little thing. I'll take him in if you call my exterminator and get them there immediately. "We called Lethal Pest Control Co., explained we were going crazy and the company sent Lonnie Bedell within 24 hours. We had to leave the house for an hour and a half and were greatly disheartened when we saw a few live ortes when we got home and the next morning.
We called the company next day and was told not to worry but to call back if we saw them after *48 hours. They were right, they all seem to have bitten the dust and we don't have to warn people not to enter our home anymore. Not only that, but feeding our little hound Bfewer's Yeast seems to be making him less desirable to fleas outside the house. The William Ris Galleries at 9725 Second Ave., Stone Harbor, will be having an exhibition of the watercolors of Brace*"' Johnson of Annville, Pa. Aug. 24 to Sept. 15. Johnson attained his BFA at Philadlephia College of Art. He was U.S. Army Illustrator with NATO in Heidelberg, Germany, art director for Channel WITFTV in Hershey, Pa. and executive director for Armstrong Cork Co. His background indicates tremendous proficieny in his chosen field and we don't want to miss the opportunity of seeing the exhibit while it's in this area. • • • Barbara (Mrs. Wayne) Chalmers of Hagen Rd., CMCH, called to tell us about her hectic, housefilled weekend and how much fun her family had, due in large measure, tc the Avalon Recreation Department. The Jones - family from Downing ton arrived first. Barbara and Russ. with their children Robbie and Janette decided to take part in the sand castle contest They were joined by Mary Ann Fortune and Michele Terenii from Philadelphia. Nancy
Helen Hutchinson and Jim- ( my O'Hara from Norristown and, of course, young Allison Chalmers. Barbara Chalmers couldn't possibly have been more delighted with the way the contest, held twice each summer, was handled by the directors She said everybody involved was cordial and there were little Avalon trophies for each contestant. Natch, she thought the judges were very discerning! The CMCH gang tied for first place with their 40-foot long railroad train and their * competition was from a mermaid created by the GarrisoA family of Avalon.
