Eagles Win Crown In League

STONE HARBOR - With a little help from the Wildcts in the final game of the season, the Eagles have captured the pennant in the Stone Harbor Lions Little League with an 8-4 record. The Eagles entered the week with a one game lead over the Panthers. Panther hopes for the title were nearly ended quickly on Tuesday night against the Aces. Scott Juenger led the Ace attack to an early lead. Juenger's aggressive baserunning combined with multiple Panther errors gave the Aces a 4-0 lead after two innings. Sloppy fielding and control problems by Ace Pitchers opened a 6-4 lead for the" Panthers in the third. Refusing to fold, the Aces took a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the sixth. WITH TWO OUTS in the sixth and runners on second and third, J.J. Lees grounded a single to left scoring Rob Fischer with the winning run, tying the Bazaar at St. Mary's STONE HARBOR - The Episcopal Church Women will hold their annual sidewalk bazaar at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 95th and Third Avenue, 9 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday The event will be held in the parish hall and on the church lawn. Featured will | be baked goods, books, magazines, white elephant items, jewelry, shell creations, handmade items, and a Christmas shop. Slide Show STONE HARBOR - The meeting of the Witmer Stone Bird and Mature Club, 8:30 p.m., Aug. 27, will feature a slide presentation of Baja Nature Unlimited presented by Merrill Cottrell. The meeting will be at the Wetlands Institute, Stone Harbor Boulevard The public is invited to attend.

Ed Hogan's grand slam and six RBI's put the Eagles ahead early in a 16-2 massacre and gave them a half game lead over the Panthers. The Panthers needed only a win over the Wildcats to force a league championship game. But Hand calmly struck out his third batter of the inning and ended all hopes of a third consecutive title for the Panthers.
