Smoking Session , Sept. 12 HAMMONTON - "People want to stop smoking." says Sue Scudder, Chest and Health Association of Southern New Jersey program assistant and instructor of a "Kick the Habit" Smoking Withdrawal | Workshop being held at Shore Memorial Hospital from 7 to 8:30 "p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 12. Ten years ago 68 percent of the adult population smoked; now it's 38 percent, a considerable decrease. With 10 of these five session "Kick the Habit" Workshops scheduled this fall, the Chest and Health Association hopes to fill all requests for help from those wanting to stop smoking. BEHAVIOR modifica tion, group support and hypnosis are the key elements of the workshop. Participants are in a group stta&tion, interacting with others who are stopping smoking and are given techniques to help them overcome physical addiction to the nicotine and emotional need for the cigarette. "Do you want to live a long, healthy, active, life?" asks Scudder. "Or do you want to take the change of developing chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, emphysema, or heart disuse?" According to Scudder, the ^chances are overwhelmingly high, that those who keep smoking will prematurely die of some form of heart or lung disease. The basic philosophy of the workshop tells the story. "It's all up to you," says Scudder. "If you want to stop smoking you can, but no one and nothing can do it for you.
