Lower Township New Notes
(From Page 16) with road repairs and improvements assigned on a priority basis. Lee Stanton of Cape May Beach, a member of the township Incinerator Authority, told council he doesn't think surfacing the roads with oil and stone is a good idea; Davis agreed with him that a good deal of that materia] winds up inside residents' homes. Stanton pushed for asphalt surfacing. Recalling that the township has purchased a used paving apparatus, Stump said he hopes to asphalt some roads this year but which streets are covered that way depends on "cost versus benefits " "It doesn't pay to use a process that is not effective," he conceded, noting earlier that he also hopes to unveil the road program during council's meeting next Wednesday. "THAT DOES SEEM a little exorbitant," the township manager told council during last week's work session, referring to a Lower Township Municipal Utilities Authority bill for fire hydrants. The township is paying the MUA $80 a year for each hydrant or $1,640 a yearly quarter, he reported. Usually, municipalities pay $l&-$30 a year for each hydrant, he added. Stump said he will see "what some of the other municipalities pay." LOWER PAYS $440 a year for each street light, he told council, a yearly bill which totals more than $101,000, according to J:ilman David F. JDACE ARNOLD of xinty SPCA reports lea Isle City police ered the society's van in that resort veek. Someone apJy took it for a joy ;he said, but nothing f was taken from inside the ' new van, not even change for tolls on the dashboard.
