By LIBBY DEMP FORREST SEPTEMBER. It's a beautiful month for a lot of things. A time to catch one's breath. We'll quote Longfellow to sum up our thoughts on September: "The morrow was a bright September morn; The earth was beautiful as if new-born : There was that nameless splendor everywhere, The wild exhiliration in the air. Which makes the passers in the city street Congratulate each other as they meet. ' ' • • • We do know a lot of the natives who've been working their heads off during the summer months come up for air in September and relish having a little time to chat with friends and neighbors again. • • • September vacationers get the best of both worlds at the seashore. Most places are still open, the beaches are empty, the water . temperatures are warm, and nature gives a good show this month. Enjoy! • • • Low temperatures at night have brought the songs of the katy-dids and tree crickets almost to a close, though the latter are out-singing the former. Other changes on the nature agenda are coming up. More about those next week. • • * We earthings love September. With that thought in mind, we present some of this earthling's favorite local eating places : KENNY'S. Henny's is the old standby of Cape May County, a year round place that offers masterful cooking, superb drinks — and George Johnson at the Steinway Saturday, Sunday and Monday. George Johnson has been stroking the ivories for so many years, we've lost count. He gives Henny s atmosphere the crowning touch, and George enjoys honoring musical requests. The daily luncheon open salad bar Monday through Saturday 11:30 to 3, and Sundays 12 to 3 keeps the appetite perked up. Dining room hours are Mqn. - Thurs. 5 to 10, Fri. & Sat. 5-11, Sunday 4-10. Stop by soon for the real flavors of Cape May county. Henny>s is located at 97th and Third Avenue, Stone Harbor. • • • RUSSO'S. Russo's is a family place which creates seafood, veal, and pasta
specialties with an experienced hand. All the pasta is homemade and even if we didn t tell you here, you'd know it the moment you'd tasted a forkful. We love the friendliness we always find at Russo's. Located at" 4415 Park Boulevard, Wildwood, Russo's stays open all year long. The hours are 5 to 9 daily ; Friday and Saturday 5 to 9:30 Take out platters are easily fixed to your order — call 522-7038. • * • ZABERER'S. Zaberer's, just off exit 6 southbound of the Garden State Parkway, holds an impressive dining reputation as one of the county's most notable restaurants Open through midSeptember, Zaberer's is one of those places that has to be seen to be believed. ~ It is immense, for one thing ; filled with antiques, Tiffany lamps, huge paintings, and Victorian decorations Even if we didn't enjoy antiques, we'd still go to • Zaberer's to enjoy the lavish food and zaberized drinks The "kids are made welcome too. Hurry on over before the season comes to a close at Zaberer's. r ' 0 0 0 MARABELLA'S. Ah, Marabella s. The food reminds us of life's best moments, spent with good friends eating tasty mouthfuls from mama's kitchen Located at 95th and 3rd Avenue, Stone Harbor, the fresh seafood is especially delightful. We applaud the friendly atmosphere and are pleased to sit down, enjoy a spaghetti dinner and talk about why we enjoy Italian food the way it is prepared here. The hearty bread is homemade, the desserts are superb If you enjoy life, food, friends and going out, come to Marabella's. — 4 • • DRAGON HOUSE. Open daily from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily, the Dragon House Chinese Restaurant, at the corner of Pacifier and Lincoln avenues, Wildwood serves its faithful customers the finest Cantonese, Mandarin and Szechuan food To tell you the truth, we've never stopped by later than midnight to sample the enticing oriental food, but it's comforting to know the Dragon House is open late if we ever wake up in the middle of the night and have a yen for something Chinese. We understand there are plenty of night owls who do come by for a take out carton, or a plentiful meal even during the wee hours
