Red Cross Seeks Blood Donations

COURT HOUSE - Blood collections in mid-August have dipped below an-

ticipated levels, according to Red Cross officials. "Although we had a

record-breaking July, decreased August collections are posing some very serious problems for the Red Cross," according to Tina Remy of the Cape May County Chapter. Each day Red Cross looks for 1,400 donors to give at its 26 mobile and center collections sites. The number of donors is based on the blood inventory needs reported by the 113 hospitals that receive blood supplies from the Red Cross. ^ LABORATORY reports indicate the need for additional pints of O Positive, 0 Negative, and B Positive, and the call is out especially for these blood type donors Adults between I7*and 65 years of age, in good health, who weigh at least 100 pounds, have never had hepatitis, cancer or a history of heart problems are usually eligible to donate blood. The entire process takes less than one hour and convenient blood collection sites are located throughout the area. SINCE BLOOD is divided into component parts such as plasma, red cells, ana

platelets, one donor can/ help several hospital patients. Red Cross urges members of the community to call the local Red Cross office at 465-7382 or the 24-bour blood donations numbers (215) 299-4800 or (609 ) 365-7100 for information on upcoming bloodmobiles.

So What — ....If it rained almost every weekend, the water was in the fifties til a couple of weeks ago — and the air temperatures not a heck of a lot better? SO WHAT if the Canadians stayed away because of the price of the dollar and the Americans went abroad for the same reason? (Or whatever other reason we can blame the season on) SO WHAT ... If half the help decided they needed a vacation the last couple of weeks of August ? It happens every year, you know. SO WHAT Is the point of all this?
