DEAL OF THE CEN TURY (Warner) "PG" "ITiis unfunny comedy is aiwther low point in the up-ana-down career of Saturday Night Live veteran _ Chevy Chase. Chase portrays a weapons dealer who sells to anyone who can come up with his price. His hard sell approach might have been more impressive if his lines were up to par with his action. Unfortunaely, the whole story is one jumbled mess wasting not only Chase but his co-star, Sigourney Weaver, as well. Deal Of The Century lacks the punch of, let's say. National Lampoon's S Vacation . Instead of trying to make a hit out of Chase's * name, the producers would have been better off finding a tighter -screenplay and having Director William Friedkin sharpen the editing to make the jokes work instead of dying. . WHERE THE FALO ROAM (MCA) "R" Basing a film on the life of pop, underground jour- ' nalist Hunter S. Thompson has to be one of the strangest moves in Hollywood's history-, but, surprisingly * enough, the end result is a genuinelyfunny movie. BUI Murray is superb in the lead role. Instead of aping Thompson's lifestyle and work habits (which consist of non-stop drinking, getting caught up in absurd situations, running up a huge bill for Rolling Stone, etc.), Murray's subtle touches give Where The ' Buffalo Roam an air of authenticity. Obviously, the snippets of Thompson's life are distorted here, but Murray makes one forget that and take it for the gospel truth. " This really is a fun picture that works a lot better on the home television set than in the theatre. BLUEBEARD (USA) "R" Despite the face Bluebekrd stars Joey Heather ton, Racquel Welch, Sybil Danning, and

the late Richard Burton. this is a film that falls flat. Burton plays Bluebeard, a twisted, demented adventurer who eliminates his wives when they start to annoy him. Each story tries to succeed in the realm of black comedy, but nothing works. The direction is choppy, the script meandering, and the acting forced and unnatural. Bluebeard is so bland and boring it doesn't even have camp appeal. There's" absolutely nothing humorous about this, except for the fact it was even made.
