, COURT HOUSE — Warm water in late summer often draws unusual fish to Cape May County waters. Many of these fish are at the extreme end of their normal range and fall into the tropical and semi- ] tropical fish categories. says the county Depart- ; ment of Public Affairs. Their presence in Cape May County waters comes only when the water rises above temperatures which will allow these fish to sur- „ vive. These exotics will stay until the cooler weather lowers water temperatures, say the J experts.

DURING THIS current season, several -sailfish were caught off the Jersey Cape coast. A 41-lb. sailfish was boated by Steve Fanelli of Penn Valley. Pa. and weighed in at South Jersey Fishing Center. Fanelli was fishing on the Sea Warrior with Capt. Jim Emanuel. Patricia Wilson of Pine H^U caught a common butterfly fish which measured IV4 inches long, while she _ was crabbing out of Stan Penska's boat livery at Avalon Anchorage. The fish was in one of Patricia's crab traps. Roy Van DerVeur of

Gladwynne, Pa., caught an inshore lizard fish which was eight inches long. ' His fish took squid bait while he was fishing for fluke out of Cape May aboard the Miss Chris II with Capt. Fred Ascoli. Thomas Richards of Bethlehem, Pa. caught a nine-inch long pilot fish which weighed a half pound. He was fishing with cut spot bait from the Avalon Fishing Club pier in Avalon. MIKE SHAFFER of Philadelphia weighed in a 2 lb. 14 oz. triggerfish caught on squid bait from the pier at Wildwood Marina. Barbara Rei chert of NorthCape May caught a 2*4 lb. triggerfish while ocean fishing on the Little Chris with Capt. Roger Speigel. She was using clam bait. Caesar Simoni of Avalon, caught a 1^ lb. triggerfish in Leonard's Thorofare while fishing squid bait. Tom Lubas of Philadelphia caught a 24 lb. stargazer while fishing Corosn's Inlet with a minnow for bait. A 1 lb. 10 oz. stargazer was eighted in by Daniel Domeracki of Sea Isle City. He was surf fishing at 37th Street and the beach when he caught the stargazer. A number of Spanish Mackerel are also being caught by Jersey Cape anglers. Ed Mellon of Northfield caught a 24 lb. Spanish mackerel while trolling off Hereford Inlet, North Wildwood. John Von Eachenbach of Album, Ala., caught a 1 lb. 11 oz. ' Spanish Mackerel while on an ocean trip on the Miss Chris II jout of Cape May. Elizab&h Githens, of Newtown, Pa. caught a 1^4 Spanish Mackerel while fishing on the No Name II with Douglas Githens. Her fish hit a trolled Clark . spoon. Doug Githens, of Newtown, Pa., caught a 14 lb. Spanish Mackerel on the same boat with a Clark spoon on a trolling trip the day before. The semi -tropicals will remain in the area for some time. Veteran Jersey Cape fishermen indicated that the. number of tropicals around in early September point to an extended good fishing season.
