SEPTEMBER is fading. Ala/ These final days of September there'/ apt to be a nip in the air, just to put inti mind October is just around the bend. / It's time for the fall tasks — putting in the storm windows, giving the garden a goin' over, getting the blankets out of storage. We like to climb up to the attic on a nice crisp autumn afternoon and look out over Cape Miy's steeples and gingerbread roofs to Observe the fall colors below. Each of us probably has a favorite vantage point for satisfying that urge to observe an autumn setting on a sunshiny day. • * • AT SUNDOWN tonight the Jews begin the celebration of Rosh Has hanah, the Jewish New Year. The month of Tishri is the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. Traditionally the first day of this month has been called "the first day of creation," and perhaps for that reason the New Year or beginning of the year was established on the first and second day of the month. Another theory is that the planting of the new crop in ancient Israel came at that time of the year. The Hebrews were an agricultural people — a very logical explanation for making the beginning of the New Year not the first calehdar ^ month but the seventh month, Tishri, the ' agricultural New Year. This New Year is 5745 on the Jewish calendar. • * • Now that it's autumn, we're all for enjoying the new season by enjoying the local restaurants. Here are some of our favorites: IMPERIAL CHINESE RESTAURANT. Sometimes we think we were born in the wrong place because everytime we go by a Chinese restaurant, we have to stop and get something to eat. Fortunately, the Imperial Chinese Restaurant, at 5900 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City is open seven days a week from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. It specializes in Szechuan, Cantonese, Human and Mandarine style cooking, and quite honestly, we love it all — although not at a single sitting. Last weekend The Hubby and I enjoyed Happy Family there, an excellent combination of chicken, pork, shrimp and lobster mixed with vegetable topped with a mild white sauce. We can tell you it made us feel very happy. You'll fell happy too dur ing a visit to the Imperial Chinese. • • • OBADIAH'S. Originally, we drove up to Obadiah's because the name fascinated us, but after we got to Obadiah's (notice how we like to keep using that word? ) it was the food that kept us fascinated. Located at exit 25 of the Parkway in Marmora, Obadiah's (here we go again)

featured some of the best steak's we've [ ever eaten. Thick and juicy, the meat is r aged to just the right moment, then serv- I ed as ordered. We go for ours rare, but 1 The Hubby likes his well done. Open from j 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Obadiah's is a good stopping up place when you're out shopping or want to take a drive before dinner. Domino's, is featured nightly in the Lounge. For reservations call 390-3574. • » • ATLAS CRYSTAL ROOM: One of the premier hostelries along Cape May's Beach Drive, the Atlas Motor Inn offers exceptional dining in the beautiful Crystal Room which looks across at the Atlantic Ocean, creating a soothing atmosphere for enjoying a meal that is pleasing to the palate as well as the eye. Since the Crystal Room is conveniently located, it's popular year round. We enjoyed the Chicken Cacciatore there last week, which was very tender, with peppers and mushrooms done just the way we like, still crispy under the fork. The Champagne Brunch is featured at the Crystal Room every Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It's a gargantuan feast'that includes eggs, bacon, hot cakes, bagels and low, Flounder franca ise, stuffed capon, short ribs, seafood salad, desserts and much, much more. A good choice when you have weekend guests. • • • YESTERDAY'S. If you went to Yesterday's yesterday Jou'd still want to go back tomorrow because the food is so good. The day before yesterday the Hubby took us out to dinner at Yesterday's, located on Roosevelt Boulevard, in Marmora and we both enjoyed the casual atmosphere and the delicious choices. Hubby wanted a big, thick prime rib and we chose the chicken pot pie. After dinner we enjoyed choosing a rich coffee — Hubby liked the Irish coffee (he's Irish, you know), and we liked the Greek coffee although our family came from Austria. We shared a piece of delicious cheese cake and tasted each other's coffee which goes to show you what a small world this really is when you're having fun. 4- t * * WINDRIFT. Come on over to the Windrift for a real nautical flavor in the restaurant, lounge and menu. Located at 80th & Beach, Avalon, the Windrift offers breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as late night snacks during the weekend. There's continuous music Friday and Saturday by D.J. Radar, filling the night with music from 9 p.m. on. The Roast Duck a L'Orange is a good choice on a cool evening; so are the broiled lamb chops served with tomato provencale. Seafood lovers would enjoy the Seafood Combination which includes shrimp, flounder, scallops, deviled crab, and deviled clam.
