Religion, Politics His Topic

S SE^ ISLE CITY - "This j yearis political campaign ^-is Creating more heat than light regarding the relation of Christian conscience to political issues." This was the comment of the Rev. Henry A Ireland, pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, this city and Ocean View, in announcing a series of three sermons on current issues of church and state. "The Moral Majority seeks to make its religious views the law of the land. A Catholic bishop tells his flock for whonfr they should not vote, commenting later that this is not the same as telling them for whom to vet£. A Baptist clergyman isacandidate for President of the United States. Is there such a thing as separation of Church and State? If so, what does it . mean in 1984? People seem

confused and concerned; some guidance is needed." Pastor Ireland commented in explaining the series. The sermons, to be preached this Sunday, Oct. 14 and 21, are entitled: "What is Caesar's. What is God's?" "Law and Personal Conscience. The Abortion Issue", and "Defining the Turf: School Prayer and Capital Punishment". Messiah Lutheran Church holds services each Sunday in the chapel of the Lutheran Home, Route 9. Ocean View, at 9 a.m., and at 4200 Land is Ave., Sea Isle City, at 11 a.m. The church's voter registration drive will conclude Sunday, two days before the registration deadline. Registration forms and absentee ballot applications will be available at both services.
