Mews Notes from Seven Mile Beach M'Ellen Rowland 368-2294
The Lions Club car raffle night was beautifully paced this year and the accoustics were better, which heightened the drama. The raffle started during happy hour and continued through the humoiKous roast beef dinner. V Winners of two prizes, which cadsed laughs rather than envy, were Ed Zaberer, winning a micrwave oven, and Ruth and Herman Kapp, who have been every place twice, getting the trip to Hawaii. Other local winners were: from Avalon — Margaret Herpert, Betty Rogers, Jack Richardson and George Phillips who won another biggie, a trip to Hawaii for two; from Court House — George Reichert, Don Peters and June Wilkinson; and from "the Wildwoods — Carl Stella, Ken 'Callaway, an unnamed resident of 6101 Park Boulevard, and Rose Osborne; from Stone Harbor — William Lukens and Richard Stella. Winner of the grand prize, a Ford Escort, was ^Chuck Haines of Ocean ^Drive, Avalon. Have you had your pooch licensed) We were informed by dog owners today that while they never let their dogs run freely, always walk them on a leash fend invariably remove their pet's droppings, police are conducting a search for unlicensed dogs. This strikes us as a ridiculous waste of time on the part of our police force. When police don't have time to enforce borough ordinances on bicycles in their cars how do they get time to walk from one home to another to see if a license has been procured for a dog] We have had two calls on this in the last 12 hours. In Stone Harbor licensing an unspayed dog costs 57.20; if your pet has been spayed the charge is 54.20. Charges are the same in Avalon. WE CAN ONLY conclude that ladies of the Stone Harbor Garden Club have a pep-pills connection. Just consider their planned activities for the week. Saturday Oct. 6, is the Autumn Frolic Flower Show, held at the school from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free and luncheon will be served from noon 'til 2. October 8, is the regular meeting at 10 a.m. at the Fire Hall with Ann Miller as featured speaker. Ann has just recently founded and is president of the Cape May Garden Club, which has as its main project care of the Victorian gardens at the Hill-Physidc House. She will speak on her favorite topic - herbs, the growing and use thereof. October it), they're holding a bus tour to Nemours, the estate of Alfred I. duPont in Wilmington. Most of you have seen Winterthur, but this is also a must . There will be a stop for lunch at Greenery H — like eating in a greenhouse really. Tickets ' are required in advance, so 1 call Florence Coyle at 1 368-2198 or Nancy Ritchie .at 368-2286 quickly. ! ••• I
