Recently we have the feeling of being in a time warp It started with the fire at Diller and Fisher's. Then one day we looked and Hahn's was gone. Since then BUI Darting, who for years had Darling Yacht Sales in Avalon, sold his share to his silent partner Malcolm Sykes. It is now called Sykes Yacht Sales. Bill Darling has bofight the property fronting on 96th Street, which now houses the Emjay Shop. Bob Bennetch's. a seafood market and, we have been told, two vacant shops. Last week another landmark, Timmer's Restaurant, vanished. We understand that for some time Larry Luing has owned that building but he now owns the entire block fronting on 2nd Avenue, from 94th to 95th Streets. He plans to start building this fall and has received permission to erect five to eight retaU stores, above which will be 17 apartment units. We asked and were informed that adequate parking space will be provided. THE 96TH STREET Bridge closed right when they told us it would; most of us are already praying its reopening will be equally prompt. Because we thought it would be a point of interest to many people on the southern end of the seven-mUe island, we kept a log of time and .mileage from 85th Street and/Third Avenue, to Burdette Tomlin Hospital. In mid-after-noon traffic conditions and observing speed limits we left at 1 : 44 p.m. and traveling via Avalon Bridge, arrived at the hospital at 2 p.m. — a total of 9.5 mUes in 16 minutes. We returned via N. Wildwood Blvd. leaving at 2:33 p.m. and reaching home at 2:52; totalling 10.4 mUes and 19 minutes. We saved three minutes taking the high road and 80 cents, so that'll be our route from now on. Depending on where you live you can figure how much more money you'll expend on fuel going to market and more importantly howmuch time you can save on an emergency run to the hospital. Combined with these two places with the celebrated Shartlesville (all you can eat) Inn' for dinner and you can't miss. The last two tours have been booked with a waiting list for each. For further info call Jim German at 967-7196. Sara Brady is Stone Harbor Seniors' Delegate to the County's and State's Division on Aging. She always distributes the monthlybulletin they prepare to keep our group apprised of services available to them. We were shocked to read the October Courtesy Van Schedule. It operates from three different locations in Ocean City on three dates; from Villas on Oct. 15; I from Cape May on Oct. 31 ; *from Wildwood, Oct. 22; and from Woodbine, Oct. 18 and 21. Our question is: Why have no dates been specified for Avalon and Stone Harbor? If you have questions about this free service call: 886-2784 or 886-2785. THE 20TH Anniversary of the Mid-Atlantic Jart Tournament took place in Stone Harbor last week. ( Jarts are large darts used in lawn tossing.) Invitations were sent to over 60 players by Tournament Commissioner Jack Bennet and his wife Dolores, of Alexandria, Va.. and Stone Harbor. Twenty-four accepted and the couples began arriving at noon on the 21st. A welcoming cocktail party was held at the Bennets' at 4 followed by a dinner sponsored by Del ores Bennet. Ruthie Blair and Nancy Collier. Forty hungry travelers put away a ton of food. At 9 they all trooped to Henny's for a sing-a-loqg. (Page 17 Please)
