Seven Mile Beach News Notes
(From Page 16) EVIE and JOE NARDELLO of Pennsauken and 10013 3ctf Ave. threw a brunch at\9 a.m. Saturday that was a\doozie — the. tournament didn't start 'til 12:30 p.m. and ended at 5. Another cocktail party followed by a sit-down lobster dinner for 40 was put on by Eric Person and Jack Collier of 100th Street. After dinner awards were presented to winners of the Jart Tournament, John Sundeen and Joe Nardello. A birthday cake was also presented to Sundeen, who will be 85 on Nov. 5. The three-day affair climaxed on Sunday, the 23rd, with a champagne breakfast hosted by Dorothy and John Sundeen. All are hoping this will become an annual event in Stone Harbor. ON WEDNESDAY, Oct. 3, the couple who first introduced us to the S.H. Seniors, Andrew and Matt Woolery, drove us to Urie's big restaurant for their luncheon and boating outing on the ersatz paddle-wheel Delta Lady. Fifty-eight members and their guests joined us for lunch and 47 people plus a group from Ohio, took the cruise to Cape May. Three out of eight people at our table at Urie's pronounced the Martinis the best obtainable and everybody thought the comestibles delicious and reasonably priced. Prexy Carey Boss didn't have the help of his wife Jane, because she is standing by their first grandchild, newly-born Sarah Eleanor Van Horn of Westmont, N.J., (like a mama bear) but V.P. Scott Daniels and Frau Alice took up the slack. '
IT WAS ONE of the most delightful days in our six years of retirement. Weather perfect, skip commodious and calm as the QE II with both a snack bar and, with or without fortified, liquid refreshment. Hie guide was superb! We learned so much we had never known about the area — nautical flags were used first in Cape May, then worldwide; Pooper Island is the home of the sanitation system for that part of the world; first and second numbers on a Coasl Guard vessel indicate its length up to 93 feet; pennants bearing leaves on the vessel Alert indicate number of ships she has apprehended smuggling narcotics; Turtle Cove Island was last USA holdout in Revolutionary War; and the Coast Guard mascot is the Mosquito. Surrounded by migrating cormorants and martins which stick around to enjoy the blueberry crop, we returned to port full of food, facts and fun — be sure to take this trip while, you're in the vicinity. THE BOOMBA fad has struck Stone Harbor. The Seniors' Orchestra gave their own party Saturday, Sept 22, and it was a zinger! Marcelle and Ray deLaurentis, Herm and Marie Siri and Jessie Strohmetz co-hosted a party at Legion Hall and the old edifice rocked under the impact. Guests did every dance but the limbo, and our soloists did their own thing with or without recorded accompaniment. Hie younger generation was there too. Bunny and Bill King, the deLaurentis' daughter and son-in-law, and Karl and Virginia
NoHe from the Reading area. Virginia imported and played the boom ha (a one-piece-band) excellently when she could get it away from Tom Clydesdale. The Cther surprise star of the evening was handsome, always dignified, Father Michael P. Orsi of St. Paul's R.C. Church, who took to the dance floor and cut the meanest rug of them all amidst applause and cheers from the guests.
