j Honored I By VFW CAPE MAY — Joe Marren, a past commander, has been named as member of the month by Peterson-Little Post 386, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Marren, who served in Europe During World War II, is a trustee for the post and has been chairman of ' the post's beauty queen contest, poppy sale, and Christmas for the needy committees. He is a member of the | Cooties and of the post color guard. Retired, he [ -lives in Cape May with his wife, Evelyn, who is a I member of the ladies' auxiliary. t . Rec Slate Still Offers Openings .CAPE MAY - The fall recreation programming provided by the city is well underway, but some of the special interest courses still have openings. Adults, children or families with some idle leisure time they would like to fill can enroll for at least another week to take SCUBA diving, beginner adult exercise, advanced adult exercise, Super Saturday for children 12 " and under, Saturday morning swim classes, culinary classes, karate for adults and children, children's tap and ballet, ( square dancing, diving and Lifesaving. CAPE MAY'S fall activities also include open swims on Mondays, v Tuesdays and Saturdays at the City Elementary' School as well as roller skating Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and skateboarding Mondays and Wednesdays in Convention Hall. Bill Aids Marine Center BRIGANTINE - The Marine Mammal Stranding Center is urging South Jersey residents to contact tne state Assembly's Agriculture and Environmental Committee in support of a bill (A-2387) that would appropriated $34,000 a year to the center. ^/Tbe bill will be con sidered by the Assembly committee tomorrow. According to the center's newsletter, "The Blowhole," the appropriation would help build a large whale holding tank. Since January, the. center has handled 19 stranding! — 10 after July 1, including seven log- ' gerhead turtles, two bottlenosed dolphins and ooe leatherback turtle, The Blowhole reports in its fall editioa.
