I New Jersey National Super Now Rate Tops
By JOSEPH R. ZELNIK Countians can get a super interest rate on the Super Now account thanks to one of those bank changes that seem to take place every few weeks. New Jersey National Bank took over Citizens United Bank Oct. 1, and came to town — with offices locally in West Cape May and Woodbine — with some new "products." They add up to higher interest rates than Citizens was paying on the insured money market deposit account ($2,500 minimum and no more than six transactions a month) and the Super Now (similar to the former, but unjimited transactions). RESULT: New JerseyNational is paying the same rate on both ac-
counts, 9.25 percent, and that's the highest Super Now rate in the county (Ofcean City Home Savings & .Loan is paying 9.17 percent). The catch at New Jersey Nsiional is that one must maintain a $20,000 minimum. If it falls below that, there is a $7.50-a month charge. But for businesses that require a high balance and write a lot of checks, the Super Now probably shfuld be looked at. Few county businesses are, according to the financial institutions. As for those insured money market deposit accounts, they continue to be paying better than 9" percent, even though the T-bill dropped for the fifth week in a row to 10.11 percent last week. the top 'money market interest payers continue in thd same 1-2-3 order for the third consecutive month: Otean City Homes Savings & | Loan 9.9 percent; First Savings & Loan, 9.75; andCrest Savings & Loan 9.4. O^an City and First compound daily; Crest monthi T
The interest rates on these accounts change weekly and result from "management decision." The only way to get them is to contact the institutions. Following list, in alphabetical order, gives last week's money makret interest rates followed by the Super Now interest rates paid by the county's 15 financial institutions. Anchor Savings & Loan, 9.15, 7.9. Cape May County Savings & Loan, 9.35, 6.5. Collective Federal Savings & Loan, 9.25, 8.5. Crest Savings & Loan, 9.5,8.5. First Fidelity Bank/South, 9.32. Marine National Bank. 9.15,7.4. ■' — Midlantic Union Trust, 9.15, 7. New Jersey National Bank, 9.25, 9.25. Ocean City Home Savings A Loan, 9.9, 9.17. Security Savings & Loan, 9.25, 7.5.
